Atlético Madrid’s chief executive Miguel Ángel Gil has firmly ruled out any possibility of Julián Álvarez leaving the club this summer despite growing speculation linking the Argentine forward with several European heavyweights.
The Spanish club have made their position clear following both Barcelona and Real Madrid previously testing Atlético’s resolve with massive offers for the 26-year-old striker. According to Gil, however, there is no price that will persuade the club to part ways with one of their most prized assets.
Speaking about Álvarez’s future, Gil stressed that both Barcelona and the player have been informed of Atlético’s stance, insisting the former Manchester City star remains central to Diego Simeone’s long-term plans.
“Our position is clear. We’ve made it known to the player, his representatives and the president of Barcelona. Julián is the perfect centre-forward for Atlético Madrid and Atlético Madrid is the right place in the world for him. We want to keep him.”

Atlético Reject Huge Offers
Gil revealed that Atlético had already turned down an offer worth around €100 million from Spanish champions Barcelona and insisted even significantly larger bids would not change the club’s position.
“I recently heard the president say that the offer he made to Atlético Madrid wasn’t unlimited. My only response is that our answer is unlimited. We do not want to transfer him. We didn’t accept an offer of €100 million, and we won’t accept one of €150 million or even €200 million.”

Reports have linked both Barcelona and Real Madrid with ambitious attempts to sign the Argentina international, underlining the high regard in which he is held across Europe. Despite the interest, Atlético remain determined to build their attack around the World Cup winner.

The club invested heavily to bring Álvarez from Manchester City in the summer of 2024, making him one of the marquee signings of the transfer window. After two seasons in Madrid, he has developed into one of La Liga’s most complete forwards through his finishing, relentless pressing, movement and work rate.
Player’s Future Remains Uncertain
Despite Atlético’s unwavering stance, uncertainty remains over Álvarez’s future. Reports indicate the striker has informed the club of his desire to seek a new challenge, with several elite clubs monitoring the situation closely.
His growing reputation has made him one of the most sought-after forwards in world football. Since emerging at River Plate, Álvarez has enjoyed success wherever he has played, winning major honours in Argentina, England and on the international stage.
During his spell at Manchester City, he won the Premier League, FA Cup, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup while contributing important goals alongside Erling Haaland.
He was also part of Argentina’s triumphant squads at the 2022 FIFA World Cup and the 2024 Copa América, cementing his status as one of the game’s leading attackers.
Known for his intelligence off the ball and ability to play as both a central striker and a supporting forward, Álvarez combines technical quality with exceptional defensive work, attributes that have made him indispensable for both club and country.
Focused on World Cup Glory
For now, Álvarez’s attention remains fixed on international duty as Argentina prepare for the 2026 FIFA World Cup final.
The forward has played a key role in guiding La Albiceleste to a second consecutive World Cup final and a third appearance in the last four editions of the tournament. Argentina are chasing a fourth FIFA World Cup title and hoping to become back-to-back world champions for the first time in their history.

Standing in their way is an outstanding Spain side that has conceded just one goal in seven matches during a remarkable run to the final.
Álvarez has once again delivered when it has mattered most, contributing crucial goals, relentless pressing and tireless movement throughout Argentina’s campaign. His performances have further enhanced his reputation as one of the world’s elite forwards and explain why Europe’s biggest clubs continue to pursue his signature.
Yet Atlético Madrid remain unmoved. Gil’s emphatic comments leave little room for doubt that the club intends to resist every approach, regardless of the size of the offer.
Whether Álvarez’s reported desire to leave eventually changes that position remains to be seen, but for now, Atlético’s message is unmistakable and that their star striker is not for sale at any price.
