GSE Composite Index Smashes 15,000-Point Milestone

The Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) has achieved another remarkable feat after the benchmark GSE Composite Index (GSE-CI) surged past the psychological 15,000-point mark for the first time, underscoring the market’s extraordinary performance in 2026.

The latest trading session saw the benchmark index climb by 147.56 points, representing a 0.99 percent gain, to close at 15,079.27 points. The impressive performance further strengthened investor confidence and extended one of the strongest rallies recorded on the local bourse in recent years.

The milestone reflects the sustained optimism that has characterized Ghana’s equity market throughout the year, with investors continuing to reward listed companies despite occasional market volatility.

Historic Milestone Fuels Investor Optimism

Crossing the 15,000-point threshold marks another significant achievement for the Ghana Stock Exchange, which has consistently delivered strong returns since the beginning of the year.

The latest figures show that the benchmark index has recorded a 1.87 percent gain over the past week, a 2.23 percent increase over the last four weeks, and an outstanding 71.94 percent year to date return.

Such impressive growth places the Ghana Stock Exchange among the best-performing stock markets in Africa this year, reinforcing confidence in Ghana’s capital market as an attractive destination for both domestic and foreign investors.

Although the broader market continued its upward trajectory, the GSE Financial Stocks Index (GSE-FSI) experienced a slight decline.

The financial index slipped by 0.18 percent to close at 8,242.01 points. Despite the marginal drop, it still recorded a 0.09 percent gain over the past four weeks and maintained a remarkable 77.36 percent year to date return, highlighting the sector’s resilience.

Market capitalization climbs higher

The bullish sentiment also translated into a higher overall market value.

The market capitalization of the Ghana Stock Exchange increased from GHS 287.3 billion to GHS 287.8 billion, equivalent to approximately USD 24.8 billion.

The increase reflects the continued appreciation in share prices across several listed companies as investors maintained strong buying interest.

Market analysts believe the sustained rally demonstrates renewed confidence in Ghana’s economic outlook, improving corporate earnings prospects and growing participation by investors seeking attractive returns from equities.

Trading activity records massive surge

One of the most remarkable highlights of the trading session was the dramatic jump in market activity.

A total of 3,833,274 shares changed hands, representing a market value of GHS 19,348,279.00.

Compared with the previous trading session on Monday, July 20, trading volume skyrocketed by an astonishing 346 percent, while market turnover surged by an incredible 643 percent.

The sharp increase indicates heightened investor participation and stronger demand across several listed equities.

Such remarkable growth in trading activity often signals increasing confidence among investors and reflects improved liquidity within the market.

Seven gainers dominate trading

Out of the 29 listed equities that participated in trading, seven recorded gains while five closed lower, demonstrating a broadly positive market sentiment.

Intravenous Infusions PLC emerged as the biggest winner after its share price climbed 8.7 percent to close at GHS 0.50 per share.

It was closely followed by Dannex Ayrton Starwin, which gained 7.32 percent, while Kasapreko PLC continued its impressive post listing momentum with a 6.5 percent increase.

Clydestone Ghana also delivered a strong performance after recording a 6.25 percent appreciation in its share price.

The gains across these companies helped drive the benchmark index above the historic 15,000-point level.

Atlantic Lithium leads decliners

Despite the overall positive market performance, a handful of stocks ended the day in negative territory.

Atlantic Lithium recorded the steepest decline after its share price dropped 9.93 percent to close at GHS 7.62.

The company was followed by Ecobank Transnational, which fell 2.91 percent, while CalBank declined 1.25 percent.

Ghana Oil Company also slipped by 0.13 percent, adding to the list of stocks that ended the session lower.

Although these losses weighed on specific sectors, they were not sufficient to derail the broader market rally.

MTN Ghana dominates trading volumes

In terms of trading activity, MTN Ghana maintained its dominance by recording the highest number of shares traded during the session.

The telecommunications giant accounted for 2.33 million shares, representing a substantial portion of total market activity.

Kasapreko PLC followed with 848,512 shares, continuing to attract strong investor interest following its successful listing on the exchange.

Ecobank Transnational recorded 217,226 shares, while Intravenous Infusions PLC traded 185,345 shares, reflecting heightened activity in some of the day’s strongest performing stocks.

The concentration of trading among these companies illustrates where investor attention remains strongest as the market continues its impressive upward trend.

Outlook remains encouraging

The latest performance reinforces the growing strength of Ghana’s equity market and highlights increasing investor confidence in listed companies.

Breaking above the 15,000-point mark represents more than just a numerical achievement. It symbolizes the resilience of Ghana’s capital market and its ability to deliver exceptional returns despite global economic uncertainties.

If current momentum continues and corporate earnings remain strong, analysts expect the Ghana Stock Exchange to maintain its positive trajectory in the months ahead.

For investors, the historic milestone serves as another reminder of the opportunities available on the local bourse as Ghana’s stock market continues to rewrite the record books in 2026.
