The Legal Counsel for Sedina Attionu Tamakloe, Enoch Deegbe has welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision to acquit and discharge his client, explaining that the charges brought against her could not support the case. He stated that the court’s ruling showed that the foundation of the allegations was defective and affected the entire legal process.

Mr Deegbe expressed appreciation to the Supreme Court judges for delivering a detailed judgement on the matter. He explained that the full reasons behind the decision would become clearer after the legal team receives and reviews the certified copy of the ruling.

The Legal Counsel indicated that the central issue addressed by the court was the condition of the charge sheet that formed the basis of the allegations against Sedina Attionu Tamakloe. He argued that once the foundation of a case is found to be defective, subsequent actions connected to it cannot stand.

“The crux of what Judges said today is that Sedinam, my client, is acquitted and discharged. The charge sheet which founded the allegations against her was defective and could not have founded the entire process.”

Mr Deegbe explained that he would refrain from providing detailed interpretations of the judgement until the legal team studies the court’s reasoning. He noted that making conclusions before examining the full ruling could create confusion about the basis of the Supreme Court’s decision.

According to the lawyer, the certified judgement would provide further insight into whether the court fully agreed with the arguments presented by the defence team or relied on other legal considerations. He stated that a detailed review would allow for a proper explanation of the issues involved.

Additionally, Mr Deegbe revealed that the legal team is taking steps to obtain the official copy of the ruling following the court’s indication that the document would be available. He explained that the judgement would guide future discussions about the case and the legal principles involved.

Furthermore, Mr Deegbe emphasised that the legal team’s immediate priority is to study the judgement carefully before commenting on specific arguments. He stated that a complete understanding of the court’s reasoning would allow the public to better appreciate the outcome.

According to the lawyer, individuals seeking to assess the case from any perspective should examine the court records, submissions and proceedings available through the appropriate legal channels. He explained that reviewing the full details would provide a clearer understanding of the arguments presented by both sides.

“Political opinions are for those who want to express them. I am a lawyer, so I speak to the law. The law is the law.”

Enoch Deegbe

The Legal Counsel stressed that the Supreme Court’s decision should be assessed through legal principles and the facts presented before the court. He noted that the judgement would provide the basis for understanding why the court reached its final determination.

Additionally, Mr Deegbe indicated that the legal team is focused on completing the necessary administrative requirements following the ruling. He explained that the next steps would involve ensuring that all procedures connected to the judgement were properly followed.

The lawyer added that the outcome has brought relief to his client and her supporters after the lengthy legal proceedings. He emphasised that the focus would now shift to studying the judgement in detail and understanding its implications within Ghana’s justice system.
