Afrobeats superstar Rema has officially kicked off his 2026 music run with the announcement of his first single of the year, titled “TEA.” The track is scheduled for release this Friday, generating immediate excitement across social media platforms and among fans of Nigerian music worldwide.

The post quickly amassed hundreds of thousands of views, tens of thousands of likes, and thousands of reposts within hours. The 26-second clip offers a stylish glimpse into the visual world of the song, featuring Rema in vibrant blue designer attire, heavy gold chains, and signature braids as he moves energetically through urban street scenes.

Motorcycle riders appear against a sunset backdrop, while Rema gestures and performs with characteristic swagger in residential settings that appear to evoke both Lagos energy and European streets. The video ends with bold pink “TEA” lettering on a dark screen.

Industry observers and fans quickly noted the production credit. Multiple reactions highlighted the unmistakable “Mustard on the beat, ho!” tag, confirming that the track is produced by American hitmaker DJ Mustard.

The collaboration marks a notable cross-Atlantic pairing for Rema, pairing his Afro-rave style with Mustard’s signature West Coast-influenced beats known for hits across hip-hop and R&B.

The announcement has drawn reactions from fellow Nigerian artists. Prominent rapper Odumodublvck, known for his aggressive “okporoko” sound and the moniker “Industry Machine,” quoted Rema’s post with three coffee cup emojis . The playful response cleverly nods to the song’s title while fueling speculation among fans about a possible feature or deeper collaboration.

The two artists share history: Odumodublvck appeared on “War Machine” from Rema’s 2024 album Heis, and Rema previously supported the rapper with a reported ₦40 million contribution toward the music video for Odumodublvck’s track “Pity This Boy.”

Rema, born Divine Joshua Ikubor on May 1, 2000, in Benin City, has built one of the most successful careers in modern Afrobeats. He rose to prominence with “Dumebi” in 2019 after signing with D’Prince’s Jonzing World and Mavin Records. His global breakthrough came with “Calm Down,” which, especially in its remix with Selena Gomez, topped charts and dominated the Billboard U.S. Afrobeats Songs chart for a record 58 weeks.

His debut album Rave & Roses (2022) and the darker, more experimental Heis (2024) solidified his position as a leading figure in the genre he has helped shape under the banner of “Afro-rave.”

Heis featured collaborations with Shallipopi and Odumodublvck and earned Rema a Grammy nomination for Best Global Music Album. In recent years he has continued releasing singles such as “Baby (Is It a Crime)” and “Bout U,” performed at major events including the 2026 FIFA World Cup opening ceremony alongside BLACKPINK’s Lisa and Anitta, and maintained a strong international presence through tours and high-profile appearances.

“TEA” arrives as Rema’s first official single of 2026, following a relatively quieter start to the year compared to some of his peers. Fans and commentators have described the teaser as energetic and dance-oriented, with many predicting it will dominate playlists and charts in the coming weeks.

Public Reaction

Social media chatter has mixed anticipation for the full track with discussions about Mustard’s involvement and hopes that the song continues Rema’s streak of blending local Nigerian textures with global production appeal.

The title “TEA” itself has sparked lighthearted conversation. In internet slang, “tea” refers to gossip or juicy information, while the literal beverage connection prompted the coffee-emoji responses. Rema’s choice of a short, memorable title fits his pattern of creating earworm tracks that translate easily across languages and cultures.

As Friday approaches, the Afrobeats community is bracing for a busy release day. Some observers noted that several other high-profile Nigerian and diaspora artists may also drop music around the same window, potentially creating a competitive but exciting chart battle. Rema’s consistent ability to deliver catchy, visually striking projects has set high expectations.

The official music video for “TEA” is reported to have been filmed in Portugal, adding another international layer to the rollout. Full streaming availability on platforms including Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube is expected at midnight local time on the release date.

Rema’s announcement underscores the continued global momentum of Afrobeats. From sold-out arenas to crossover chart success and major sporting event performances, the genre and its leading artists remain in the spotlight. With “TEA,” Rema positions himself once again at the center of the conversation, inviting listeners to sip on whatever sonic blend he and Mustard have prepared.

Fans will soon find out when “TEA” arrives this Friday.
