The Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) opened the new trading week on a mixed but largely positive note as investors traded shares worth GH¢7.3 million, while the benchmark index continued its upward march.
At the close of trading on Monday, August 10, 2026, a total of 2,840,931 shares valued at GH¢7,307,188.73 changed hands across the market.
Although trading activity softened compared with the previous session on Friday, August 7, the performance of key market indices remained positive, reinforcing the GSE’s strong performance so far this year.
Trading Activity Slips Despite Market Gains
The latest trading figures showed a 2% decline in traded volume compared with the previous trading session. Turnover also fell by 20%, reflecting a slowdown in the value of transactions during the session.
Despite the softer trading activity, 27 listed equities participated in the day’s trading, with four recording price gains while two stocks ended in negative territory.
The market’s ability to maintain an upward trajectory despite the decline in turnover suggests that investor interest remains concentrated in selected counters.
The performance also highlights the uneven nature of activity on the exchange, where a relatively small number of stocks can significantly influence overall market direction.
DAS Pharma Leads Market Winners
Dannex Ayrton Starwin emerged as the biggest winner of the session, delivering a strong 9.62% increase in its share price.
The stock closed at GH¢0.57 per share, placing it firmly at the top of the day’s gainers.
Hords followed closely with a 9.09% appreciation, signalling strong buying interest in the company.
SIC Insurance Company also recorded a notable increase, climbing 6.26%, while Ecobank Transnational gained 3.39%.
The broad gains among the leading performers helped provide the momentum needed to push the overall market higher despite weaker trading volumes.
The session therefore ended with four gainers against two losers, pointing to a generally positive market sentiment.
Intravenous Infusions Suffers Sharpest Drop
While several stocks recorded impressive gains, Intravenous Infusions suffered the steepest decline of the day.
The company dropped 9.43%, making it the biggest loser on the exchange during the session.
Enterprise Group also ended lower, although its decline was marginal at 0.1%.
The sharp contrast between the strongest gainers and the biggest decliner demonstrates the volatility that can emerge within individual counters even when the broader market remains positive.
For investors, the day’s performance underscores the importance of stock-specific developments and trading activity when assessing movements on the exchange.
Digicut Dominates Trading Volume
Digicut Production & Advertising emerged as the most actively traded stock by volume, recording 1.07 million shares.
The company was followed by MTN Ghana, which recorded 611,499 shares traded.
Kasapreko also attracted substantial activity, with 500,101 shares changing hands, while Intravenous Infusions recorded 299,122 shares.
The concentration of trading in these four counters accounted for a significant portion of the day’s total activity.
The figures indicate that investors continued to focus heavily on selected equities, with Digicut commanding the largest share of traded volume during the session.
GSE Composite Index Climbs
Despite the decline in overall turnover, the benchmark GSE Composite Index ended the session on a positive note.
The index gained 38.09 points, representing a 0.25% increase, to close at 15,225.56 points.
The latest advance further strengthens the exchange’s impressive year-to-date performance.
According to the trading data, the GSE Composite Index has recorded a 73.6% gain since the beginning of the year.
However, the index remains down 0.89% over the past week. Its four-week performance remains firmly positive, with a 3.13% gain.
The figures highlight the remarkable strength of the Ghanaian equities market in 2026, despite periodic corrections and fluctuations in daily trading activity.
Financial Stocks Also Move Higher
The GSE Financial Stocks Index also closed higher during the session.
The index increased by 0.65% to reach 8,073.37 points, extending its year-to-date gain to 73.73%.
However, the financial stocks benchmark remains under pressure over shorter periods. It recorded a 1.59% decline over the past week and a 2.3% decline over four weeks.
The divergence between its short-term performance and substantial year-to-date gain reflects the strong rally recorded by financial equities earlier in the year.
GSE Market Value Reaches GH¢287.3 Billion
The latest trading session also came as the total market capitalisation of the Ghana Stock Exchange stood at GH¢287.3 billion, equivalent to approximately US$24.5 billion.
The size of the market highlights the growing value of listed companies and the increasing importance of the GSE to Ghana’s capital market.
With the Composite Index maintaining a strong year-to-date gain, investors will be watching closely to determine whether the market can sustain its upward momentum in the coming sessions.
The immediate focus is likely to remain on trading volumes, turnover and the performance of heavyweight counters.
For now, Monday’s session delivered a striking combination of softer trading activity and rising market indices, giving investors another strong signal that the GSE remains one of the standout performers in Ghana’s financial markets this year.
