Spanish club Girona FC have completed the signing of Ghanaian defender Abdul Mumin as they continue to strengthen their squad ahead of the 2026/27 season.
The 28-year-old centre-back joins the Spanish club as a free agent and has signed a three-year contract, keeping him at Girona until 2029. His arrival is expected to add physical strength, defensive experience and greater depth to a backline that has undergone significant changes during the summer transfer window.
In announcing the signing, Girona highlighted Mumin’s LaLiga experience, physical strength and potential to establish himself as an important member of the club’s defensive unit. “With this signing, Girona strengthens a position that has undergone several changes this summer and adds a player with LaLiga experience, physical ability, and the potential to establish himself as an important part of the red-and-white defense,” Girona said.

Born in Accra on June 6, 1998, Mumin stands at 1.88 metres and has developed a reputation for his physicality, strength in duels and ability to compete against powerful attackers.
His football development began at Ghana’s renowned Right to Dream Academy before he moved to Europe to begin his professional career. He spent a significant period at Danish side FC Nordsjælland, where he developed his defensive game and gained valuable experience in European football.
He later moved to Portugal to play for Vitória Guimarães, continuing his progression before earning a move to Spain in 2022.
Mumin Brings Valuable LaLiga Experience
Mumin joined Rayo Vallecano in the summer of 2022, marking a major step in his career as he began competing regularly in one of Europe’s leading domestic leagues.
During his spell with the Madrid-based club, the Ghanaian defender accumulated more than 60 official appearances. His experience against top-level opposition in LaLiga has now made him an attractive addition for Girona as they seek greater stability in central defence.

Mumin has also established himself on the international stage with Ghana. He made his senior debut for the Black Stars in June 2024 and has since been part of the national team’s plans.
He was included in Ghana’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, further adding to his experience at the highest level of international football.
Girona believe those qualities will be valuable as they prepare for another demanding campaign. The club’s defensive department has undergone several changes during the summer, creating the need for a player capable of providing both physical presence and familiarity with Spanish football.
For Mumin, the move represents an opportunity to begin a fresh chapter in Spain while continuing to build on the experience he has accumulated since leaving Ghana.
His previous time in LaLiga means he should require little adjustment to the pace, tactical demands and physical nature of the competition. Girona will consequently expect him to compete immediately for a starting role and help strengthen the team’s defensive structure.
The Ghanaian will now turn his attention to establishing himself at Girona and helping the club achieve its objectives during the 2026/27 campaign.
With three years secured on his new contract, Mumin has the opportunity to become a key figure in Girona’s defence while further enhancing his reputation in Spanish football.
