Catalan giants FC Barcelona have confirmed the signing of Brazilian striker Gabriel Jesus from Arsenal, with the forward agreeing to a three-year contract that will keep him at the club until June 30, 2029.

Barcelona announced the deal on transfer deadline day, Tuesday, September 1, bringing an end to Jesus’ four-year spell in London with the Premier League champions Arsenal.

The 29-year-old becomes the latest high-profile addition to the Blaugrana squad as they strengthen their attacking options ahead of the new campaign following the arrivals of Karim Adeyemi and Anthony Gordon in the forward line.

“Arsenal and FC Barcelona have reached an agreement for the transfer of Gabriel Jesus to the blaugranes,” Barcelona said in an official statement. The club added: “The Brazilian striker signs on as a culer for three seasons.”

Jesus was born in São Paulo on April 3, 1997, and began his football journey with Anhanguera before joining the youth system of Palmeiras. He made his senior debut for the Brazilian club in March 2015 and quickly established himself as one of the country’s brightest attacking talents.

His breakthrough campaign came in 2016 when he helped Palmeiras win the Brazilian league title and was subsequently named the best player in the Brazilian league.

His performances attracted interest from Europe, eventually leading to a move to Manchester City in the summer of 2016.

Successful Spell at Manchester City

Jesus spent six seasons at Manchester City under manager Pep Guardiola, making 236 appearances for the club and scoring 95 goals while providing 45 assists.

During his time at the Etihad Stadium, he won four Premier League titles, one FA Cup, four League Cups and two Community Shields.

His versatility allowed him to operate both as a central striker and from wider attacking positions, making him an important component of Guardiola’s squad.

After leaving Manchester City, Jesus moved to London in July 2022 to join Arsenal. He made 123 appearances for the Gunners, scoring 32 goals and registering 22 assists across his spell with the club. Much of his time at the Gunners were hindered by persistent injury woes.

His Arsenal career was disrupted by a serious anterior cruciate ligament injury suffered in January 2025. The injury ruled him out for almost a year before he returned to action in December.

Jesus subsequently played a role in Arsenal’s successful 2025/26 Premier League campaign, making 14 appearances and scoring three goals as the Gunners secured the league title.

Olympic and Copa América Champion

Barcelona’s new signing also arrives at Camp Nou with significant international experience. Jesus progressed through Brazil’s youth teams before representing the country at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

He scored three goals as Brazil won the men’s football gold medal on home soil, adding an Olympic title to his growing list of achievements.

Jesus made his senior Brazil debut in September 2016 and went on to represent the national team at the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cups.

He was also part of Brazil’s squad that won the 2019 Copa América and featured in the country’s campaign at the 2021 edition of the continental tournament.

Barcelona will now hope the experienced forward can rediscover his best form in Spain after a difficult period at Arsenal interrupted by injury.

The move also gives Jesus an opportunity to begin a new chapter in his career with one of Europe’s most decorated clubs. With his ability to play across the front line and his experience at the highest level, Barcelona will expect him to provide additional quality and depth to their attack.
