UEFA has confirmed the Munich Football Arena (Allianz Arena) and Camp Nou in Barcelona as the host venues for the 2028 and 2029 UEFA Champions League finals respectively, bringing two iconic European stadiums back into the spotlight for the continent’s biggest club fixture.
The decision was announced following a meeting of the UEFA Executive Committee in Thessaloniki, Greece, where several hosts for upcoming European club competition finals were approved.
According to UEFA, the Munich Football Arena will stage the 2028 Champions League final, while Barcelona’s Camp Nou has been selected to host the 2029 showpiece.
The Munich venue has a strong recent connection with the competition, having hosted the 2025 UEFA Champions League final, when Paris Saint-Germain produced a dominant 5-0 victory over Inter Milan to claim their maiden European title.
It will also bring back memories of Chelsea’s historic triumph at the stadium in 2012. The English side defeated Bayern Munich on penalties at their own home after the final ended 1-1 following extra time, securing the club’s first Champions League crown.
Camp Nou, which is still undergoing redevelopment, meanwhile, will return to the Champions League final calendar for the first time since 1999, thirty years when the famous Barcelona stadium witnessed one of the most dramatic finishes in the competition’s history.
Manchester United overturned a 1-0 deficit against Bayern Munich with two goals deep into stoppage time, with Teddy Sheringham and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer finding the net to complete a remarkable comeback and secure Sir Alex Ferguson’s side their second European Cup.
UEFA Confirms Hosts Across Major European Finals
UEFA’s latest decisions extend beyond the Champions League, with the European football governing body also confirming venues for the Women’s Champions League, Europa League, Conference League and UEFA Super Cup.
For the Women’s Champions League, Parc Olympique Lyonnais in Lyon-Décines will host the 2028 final, while the National Stadium of Wales in Cardiff has been selected for the 2029 final.
The 2028 Europa League final will be staged at the National Arena in Bucharest, with Belgrade’s National Stadium Serbia set to host the following year’s final.
The Conference League finals will take place at Juventus Stadium (Allianz Stadium) in Turin in 2028 and the Puskás Aréna in Budapest in 2029.
The UEFA Super Cup has also been allocated to Amsterdam and Astana, with Ajax’s home ground Johan Cruyff Arena hosting the 2027 edition and Astana Arena staging the 2028 fixture.
Meanwhile, Biel/Bienne Arena in Switzerland has been selected as the venue for the 2027 UEFA Futsal Champions League final.
UEFA Adjusts Nations League Promotion and Relegation
The Executive Committee also approved changes to the promotion and relegation system for the 2026/27 UEFA Nations League.
UEFA said the adjustments are designed to facilitate a smooth transition towards a new competition structure that was approved in May 2026.
Under the new concept, the Nations League will move from four leagues to three leagues beginning with the 2028/29 edition.
The changes to the 2026/27 promotion and relegation arrangements are therefore intended to bridge the existing format with the upcoming three-league structure and ensure the transition does not create disruption for participating national teams.
UEFA’s latest meeting also set the date for its next Executive Committee gathering. The committee will meet in Belfast, Northern Ireland, on December 7, one day after the UEFA EURO 2028 qualifying draw is scheduled to take place in the same city.
The confirmation of Munich and Barcelona gives UEFA two prestigious venues for its next two Champions League finals, with both stadiums carrying significant historical connections to the competition and the potential to provide memorable settings for European club football’s biggest night.
