Lionsgate has released a fresh set of posters for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, the highly anticipated prequel set to hit theaters on November 20, 2026. The images, shared widely across social media offer striking new looks at the world of Panem and its key characters, building further anticipation for the sixth film in the blockbuster franchise.

The new artwork arrives as marketing for the film intensifies in the final months before release. Previous campaigns have included large-scale outdoor advertising and promotional trucks in major cities, reflecting Lionsgate’s continued investment in the series that began with the original Hunger Games films more than a decade ago.

Sunrise on the Reaping adapts Suzanne Collins’ 2025 novel of the same name. The story returns to Panem 24 years before the events of the first Hunger Games film, focusing on the 50th Hunger Games-known as the Second Quarter Quell. In that special edition of the Games, twice the usual number of tributes are reaped, creating one of the deadliest and most memorable competitions in the series’ history.

At the center of the narrative is a young Haymitch Abernathy, the District 12 victor who later becomes the mentor to Katniss Everdeen. Australian actor Joseph Zada takes on the role previously played by Woody Harrelson in the original trilogy. Zada’s casting was announced as one of the production’s most critical decisions, with producers seeking an actor who could capture both the character’s early wit and the trauma that would shape him.

The ensemble cast is one of the strongest assembled for the franchise. Ralph Fiennes portrays President Coriolanus Snow in a younger incarnation of the role once played by Donald Sutherland and later by Tom Blyth. Elle Fanning steps into the part of Effie Trinket, originally played by Elizabeth Banks. Kieran Culkin takes over as the flamboyant Capitol host Caesar Flickerman, while Jesse Plemons plays a younger version of Plutarch Heavensbee.

Additional key roles include Mckenna Grace as Maysilee Donner, Whitney Peak as Lenore Dove Baird, Maya Hawke as Wiress, Kelvin Harrison Jr. as Beetee, and Glenn Close as the District 12 escort Drusilla Sickle.

Francis Lawrence returns to direct, having helmed every Hunger Games film since Catching Fire as well as the previous prequel, The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Screenwriters Billy Ray and Michael Lesslie adapted Collins’ novel, with producers Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson of Color Force once again overseeing the project for Lionsgate. The film carries a reported budget in the $170–200 million range and was shot primarily in 2025.

The new posters emphasize the film’s dual identity as both a character-driven drama and a large-scale dystopian spectacle. Early reactions online have praised the visual style, noting a more grounded and atmospheric approach that distinguishes this chapter from earlier entries while remaining true to the series’ distinctive aesthetic.

Fans have particularly highlighted the color palettes and composition, which many say capture the tension and gravity of the Second Quarter Quell.

Sunrise on the Reaping continues the franchise’s exploration of power, survival, and resistance. By focusing on Haymitch’s formative experience in the arena, the story provides deeper context for the mentor figure audiences first met in the original films. It also expands the mythology of Panem by examining how the Capitol’s most elaborate Games shaped the generation that would later face Katniss Everdeen’s rebellion.

The November 20, 2026 release date positions the film as a major late-year theatrical event. Industry observers expect strong opening-weekend numbers, particularly given the enduring popularity of the books and the success of the previous prequel.

The original Hunger Games series generated more than $2.9 billion worldwide, and The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes demonstrated continued audience appetite for stories set in Collins’ dystopian world.

As the final stretch of marketing begins, the new posters serve as both a reminder of the film’s imminent arrival and a visual invitation back into Panem. For longtime fans, they offer the first clear looks at a younger Haymitch and the brutal world he must navigate.

For newer audiences, they introduce a story that stands on its own while deepening the larger saga.

With just weeks remaining until the November release, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping is shaping up to be one of the most closely watched films of the year. The latest posters have only heightened interest, signaling that Lionsgate is ready to return audiences to the arena once more.
