MobileMoney Fintech LTD (MMFL) has received more than 990 entries from innovators across Ghana for the 2026 MoMo Fintech Lab, highlighting growing interest in developing practical, technology-driven solutions for the country’s digital financial services sector.
Despite the strong response, applications for the nationwide innovation programme remain open until September 30, giving more innovators the opportunity to submit ideas aimed at addressing everyday challenges, expanding financial access and strengthening Ghana’s digital economy.
Launched on August 12, the MoMo Fintech Lab identifies, mentors and supports innovators in transforming technology-driven ideas into practical, commercially viable solutions.
The programme provides a platform for individuals and teams to develop solutions that respond to real-world needs while contributing to the growth of Ghana’s digital financial services ecosystem.
Data from the applications received so far show that Everyday Payments and Financial Access accounts for the largest share of entries, representing 56 per cent of total submissions.
Business and Merchant Growth Tools follows with 17 per cent, while Trust, Security and Digital Identity accounts for 15 per cent. Future of Finance and Connected Ecosystems represents the remaining 12 per cent.
The distribution highlights the range of challenges innovators seek to address, with a significant proportion focusing on improving access to payments and financial services, supporting business operations and strengthening digital financial infrastructure.
The submissions also reflect different stages of product development, demonstrating the programme’s reach across innovators with varying levels of readiness.
Of the entries received, 374, representing 37.8 per cent, are at the concept stage, while 341 submissions, or 34.4 per cent, are at the idea stage.
A further 156 entries, representing 15.8 per cent, have progressed to the prototype stage, while 119 submissions, equivalent to 12 per cent, are minimum viable products (MVPs).
The figures indicate that the programme attracts both early-stage innovators exploring potential solutions and developers who have already made progress towards building and testing their products.
Accra, Kumasi and Tamale Record Submissions
Regionally, Accra accounts for 63 per cent of the entries received, making it the largest source of submissions.
Kumasi follows with 26 per cent, while Tamale contributes 11 per cent.
The submissions from the three cities reflect participation from different innovation hubs across the country, with the programme providing opportunities for innovators to develop solutions that respond to Ghana’s evolving digital financial service’s needs.
Commenting on the response, Shaibu Haruna, Chief Executive Officer of MobileMoney Fintech LTD, describes the submissions as an encouraging indication of Ghana’s innovation potential.

“The response so far is encouraging. Receiving nearly 1,000 submissions demonstrates the depth of Ghana’s innovative talent and the strong appetite to develop solutions to real-world challenges. We are particularly encouraged by ideas that seek to make payments and financial services more accessible, support businesses and merchants, and strengthen the wider digital economy. We invite more innovators to apply before the September 30 deadline and bring forward ideas with the potential to create meaningful impact.”

Selected Innovators to Receive Training and Mentorship
Following the application stage, selected applicants will participate in zonal boot camps and hackathons in Tamale, Kumasi and Accra.
The sessions will provide participants with training and opportunities to pitch their ideas to expert panels. The process is designed to help innovators strengthen their concepts, demonstrate the potential of their solutions and prepare for further development.
Successful participants will progress to a mentorship lab, where they will receive additional guidance and support to refine their solutions.
Through the programme, selected innovators will also gain technical, leadership and commercialisation skills, alongside mentorship, industry exposure and access to networks.
These opportunities aim to equip participants with the knowledge, connections and practical support needed to develop scalable and sustainable solutions capable of addressing market needs.
Finalists to Compete for Cash Awards of Up to GHS100,000
The programme will culminate in a National Demo Day, where finalists will showcase their solutions and compete for cash awards of up to GHS100,000.

In addition to the cash prizes, participants will have the opportunity to receive digital devices and other forms of support to advance their work.
Beyond the awards, the MoMo Fintech Lab seeks to create pathways for innovators to refine their ideas, strengthen their commercial potential and contribute to the development of Ghana’s digital economy.
