Senior Nursing Officer Salomey Awiti Baffoe has been granted bail of GH¢100,000 by the Adenta Circuit Court in the case involving alleged publication of false news linked to the Ghana Jollof social media account. The court directed that she be released on two sureties, both of whom must be civil servants earning a monthly salary of at least GH¢3,000.
Her lawyer, Enoch Afoakwa, has welcomed the ruling and disclosed that the defence has already begun arrangements to satisfy the conditions. He explained that individuals with proven integrity are available to stand as sureties and expressed confidence that the administrative requirements can be completed promptly.
“We are extremely happy and grateful to the court for granting Madam Salomey Osei Baffoe bail this morning. The needed processes have been triggered, and we believe that the process will move faster so that liberty, as the court has ordered, will be restored.”

Mr Afoakwa noted that the court has not imposed a specific deadline for fulfilling the bail conditions. Nevertheless, the defence intends to complete the necessary procedures as quickly as possible so that Ms Baffoe can leave custody.
The lawyer further clarified that the prosecution did not oppose the bail application when the matter came before the court. He identified Deputy Attorney General Dr Justice Srem-Sai as the state representative who appeared for the prosecution during the proceedings.
This position marks a change from the earlier stage of the case when the State opposed her release before the High Court. At the time, prosecutors argued that she is necessary to assist with investigations and that her release could create a risk of interference with witnesses.
Ms Baffoe has pleaded not guilty to the charge and has remained in custody while proceedings continue. The allegations against her relate to claims that she aided the publication and circulation of false information on social media, which she has not admitted.
Salomey Baffoe’s Defence Awaits Prosecution Disclosures Ahead of 2027 Hearing
The defence team of Senior Nursing Officer Salomey Awiti Baffoe is preparing for the next stage of her case as it awaits documents the prosecution intends to rely on in court. Her lawyer, Enoch Afoakwa, has disclosed that the court has directed the State to furnish the defence with the relevant materials ahead of the next hearing.
Mr Afoakwa explained that the documents will be central to the defence team’s preparation as it examines the evidence supporting the charge against Ms Baffoe. He noted that counsel will use the disclosures to understand the prosecution’s case and develop an appropriate response.
“We are awaiting disclosures of documents that they’ll rely on for the prosecution of this matter. The court has so ordered to furnish all documents, so as defence counsel, we are waiting to get those disclosures so that we can also use that to build the defence.”

The next return date has been set for February 17, 2027, giving both sides additional time to prepare for the continuation of proceedings. Mr Afoakwa indicates that the defence will use the intervening period to review the materials once they are received and consult further with Ms Baffoe.

The lawyer also provided an account of Ms Baffoe’s condition following her appearance in court. He explained that the 40-year-old was present during the proceedings and appeared deeply affected by the period she has spent in custody.
According to counsel, Ms Baffoe’s reaction must be understood against the circumstances surrounding the case and her continued denial of the allegation. He added that the defence intends to hold a conference with her after her release to discuss the circumstances she has faced and determine the appropriate course for the case.
The Ghana Police Service has also outlined findings from its investigation into the activities linked to the Ghana Jollof social media account. The CID disclosed that police intelligence identified Barbara Asantewaa Kodua as the alleged operator of the account and found that Salomey Awiti Baffoe allegedly assisted in distributing videos by recruiting others to circulate them on social media.
Police further indicated that forensic examination of Ms Baffoe’s phone, audio and video files and mobile money records revealed alleged financial transactions involving her and persons described as influential. Investigators also alleged that funds were transferred to Ms Baffoe and subsequently shared with others involved in circulating the content. The Police said relevant forensic materials and transcripts would be presented in court as evidence.
