Netflix has released the first official poster for Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew and confirmed that the film’s debut trailer will arrive tomorrow.
The striking poster features a vast silhouette of Aslan formed from a starry night sky. At its centre, a winged horse carries two small figures through a brilliant burst of light. The tagline reads “A Universe Begins.” Credit is given to Gerwig as director, with the theatrical release date listed as February 12 and a note that the film will be available in IMAX.
Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew adapts the sixth published book in The Chronicles of Narnia series, which serves as the chronological origin story of the magical world. It follows young Digory Kirke and his friend Polly Plummer as they are drawn into a series of parallel worlds through the experiments of Digory’s eccentric uncle.
Their journey leads to the creation of Narnia itself and the introduction of several key figures from the wider mythology, including the White Witch and the great lion Aslan.
About the Director
Gerwig both wrote the screenplay and directed the film. Known for Lady Bird, Little Women and Barbie, she brings a distinctive creative voice to the project. The cast includes newcomers David McKenna as Digory and Beatrice Campbell as Polly. They are joined by Emma Mackey as Jadis, Carey Mulligan, Daniel Craig as Uncle Andrew, and Meryl Streep providing the voice of Aslan. Additional cast members include Ciarán Hinds, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, Denise Gough and Susan Wokoma.
The film is scheduled for a wide theatrical release on February 12, 2027, following IMAX sneak previews beginning February 10. It will then premiere on Netflix on April 2, 2027. This dual-release strategy gives the movie a substantial cinema window before its streaming debut, a notable approach for a Netflix production of this scale.
Interest in a new Narnia adaptation has been high since Netflix acquired the rights to the series. Gerwig’s involvement raised expectations further, given her track record with literary adaptations and large-scale storytelling.
The Magician’s Nephew has never previously received a major live-action screen adaptation, making this the first time audiences will see the creation of Narnia depicted on film in this form.
The poster’s cosmic imagery and focus on Aslan and the winged horse Fledge have already generated discussion among fans. Many have interpreted the design as a visual reference to the moment Aslan sings Narnia into existence, a pivotal scene in the book.
The decision to lead with such an atmospheric image, rather than character portraits, suggests the marketing will emphasise wonder and scale.
Public Expectations
Tomorrow’s trailer is expected to offer the first moving images from the production. Industry observers anticipate it will provide clearer looks at the young leads, the Wood Between the Worlds, and the visual style Gerwig and her team have developed.
Cinematographer Seamus McGarvey and composers Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt are among the key creative collaborators on the project.
The Chronicles of Narnia remain one of the most widely read and adapted works of children’s literature. Previous film versions focused on later books in the series, particularly The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. By beginning with the origin story, Gerwig’s film has the opportunity to introduce a new generation of viewers to the full mythology while offering longtime fans a fresh perspective on familiar characters and themes.
As the trailer approaches, attention will turn to how closely the adaptation follows the source material and how Gerwig’s sensibilities shape the tone. The combination of a major director, a high-profile cast and a beloved literary property has positioned Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew as one of the most closely watched film releases of 2027.
Netflix’s coordinated release of the poster and trailer announcement signals the formal start of the film’s public campaign. With the theatrical date now less than four months away, further marketing materials, including additional posters, featurettes and cast interviews, are expected in the coming weeks.
For now, audiences have a first visual statement of the film’s ambition and a firm date for the trailer that will provide a clearer sense of what Gerwig’s Narnia will look and feel like.
