Prime Video has officially renewed Mike Flanagan’s television adaptation of Stephen King’s Carrie for a second season. The announcement came on October 22, 2026, just two weeks after the eight-episode first season premiered on October 7.
The series, which reimagines King’s 1974 horror novel for a modern audience, has been a major success for the streamer. It quickly rose to the No. 1 spot on Prime Video in more than 105 countries worldwide and drew strong reviews for its performances, updated social commentary and emotional depth.
Summer H. Howell stars as Carrie White, the telekinetic teenager who faces relentless bullying at school while living under the control of her devoutly religious mother, Margaret, played by Samantha Sloyan. The first season updates the classic story with contemporary elements, including the role of social media in amplifying cruelty, while exploring Carrie’s isolation and emerging powers.

A key departure from previous adaptations and the source novel is the ending. In Flanagan’s version, Carrie survives the catastrophic prom night events. The season closes on a deliberate cliffhanger that opens the door for further storytelling rather than ending with the traditional destruction.
Statements from Producers
Flanagan, who serves as showrunner, writer and executive producer, has long expressed interest in expanding the narrative.
“For 50 years, audiences have known and gravitated to Carrie White’s story. From the beginning, we imagined a story that goes far beyond the prom, and I’m incredibly grateful for Stephen’s trust and support in exploring what comes next.”

Stephen King, who also executive produces the series, welcomed the renewal. “I can’t wait for audiences to get to see what’s down the road for Carrie White,” King said. “Mike Flanagan and I are excited about what comes next. It’s bound to be thrilling.”
Peter Friedlander, Head of Global Television at Amazon MGM Studios, highlighted the show’s broad appeal.
“Carrie is connecting with both longtime Stephen King fans and a new generation altogether including young adults and international audiences, with particular strength among female viewers. It speaks to the enduring power of this story and signals that Mike Flanagan’s reimagining of the iconic IP has real breadth. We’re excited by where he and Stephen plan to take the story.”

Flanagan has previously described his vision for the series as a potential three-season arc, treating the first season as the opening chapter of a larger journey for the character. The renewal moves him two-thirds of the way toward that goal. Season 2 is expected to deliver new revelations, major character developments and additional twists as Carrie navigates life after the events of prom.
Supporting Casts
Supporting cast members from Season 1 include Siena Agudong, Alison Thornton, Joel Oulette, Josie Totah, Arthur Conti, Thalia Dudek, Amber Midthunder and Matthew Lillard. Several characters who survived the Season 1 climax are positioned to return, allowing the story to continue exploring relationships and consequences beyond the high school setting.

The series marks another collaboration between Flanagan and King following previous projects. Flanagan directed four of the eight Season 1 episodes, with the remaining installments helmed by Kate Siegel, Axelle Carolyn, Kyra Sedgwick and Hiromi Kamata. The Newton Brothers provided the score.
All episodes of Season 1 remain available to stream on Prime Video. No release date or production timeline has been announced yet for Season 2, but the swift renewal signals strong confidence from the streamer in both the creative team and the audience response.
By allowing Carrie to live beyond the iconic blood-soaked prom sequence, Flanagan and King have created space for a deeper examination of power, trauma, identity and redemption. The second season will test whether that expanded vision can sustain the intensity and emotional resonance that made the first season a standout.
For fans of the original novel and those discovering the story for the first time, the renewal ensures that Carrie White’s journey is far from over.
