The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has described as an “untrue and misleading”, the allegations that it has already agreed on conclusive timelines for the conduct of the party’s presidential and parliamentary primaries ahead of the 2024 general elections.
The Party provided the clarifications contrary to some media publications that suggest that the party had decided on November 2023 for the presidential primary and January 2024 for the parliamentary primaries.
In a press statement signed and issued by the General Secretary of the NPP, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party disclosed that the National Council at its last “meeting could not conclude discussions on some proposed dates for the conduct of the primaries.”
“The attention of the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been drawn to publications on some online media portals on the above headline. The party wishes to, by this statement, set the records straight on the matter.
“To start with, contrary to the claims made in the publication, the National Council of the NPP, at its last meeting, has NOT agreed on any conclusive timelines for the conduct of the Party’s presidential and parliamentary primaries ahead of the 2024 general elections. The publication is therefore, untrue and misleading.”

Since the meeting could not conclude discussions on some proposed dates for the conduct of the primaries, the National Council resolved to defer decision on the matter to allow for further stakeholder engagements in the interest of the party, the statement clarified.
“It is thus, expected that at its next meeting, the National Council may revisit this subject matter and hopefully take a definitive decision regarding the timelines for the conduct of the Party’s presidential and parliamentary primaries.”

The statement further assured that the Party will definitely communicate to all its members, stakeholders and the general public “as and when these decisions are taken”.
“Until then, the publication referenced above is misleading and should be treated as such”, the New Patriotic Party stated.
NPP National Executive Elections
On Friday, July 15, 2022, over 6,000 party delegates were present at the Accra Sports Stadium to elect party executives for the NPP, which is poised to ‘break the 8’. In June, 2022, the party approved about 47 aspirants for the ten executive positions in the party.
The New Patriotic Party’s national executive elections, which run from Friday, July 15 to Saturday, July 16, 2022, witnessed a major upset, as lawyer, Justine Kodua Frimpong, unseated incumbent General Secretary, John Boadu by 313 votes.
Kodua polled 2,837 votes as against John Boadu’s 2,524 votes, to register victory, while five-time unlucky, Stephen Ayesu Ntim, left his challengers far behind with a massive 4,014 votes. His closest challenger, Stephen Asamoah Boateng, registered 1,010 votes, with Kwabena Abankwa-Yeboah, highly tipped to impress, in a distant third with 294 votes.
Substantive Women’s Organiser of the NPP, Kate Gyamfua, was also confirmed officially to have retained her post after running home with a landslide victory.
Gyamfua polled 620 votes to beat Hajia Sawudata who polled 32 votes and Ellen Ama Daaku, who polled 9 votes.
Elections for presidential, parliamentary aspirants will be free, fair
After the elections, the General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Justin Frimpong Kodua, assured a free and fair internal elections of parliamentary and presidential aspirants for the 2024 general elections.
Mr Kodua urged party communicators to be tolerant of criticisms and embrace dissenting opinions as the party seeks to win a third consecutive general elections.
The General Secretary said the NPP is known for its sustainable social interventions that improve the living conditions of Ghanaians in the health and education sector.
Mr Kodua indicated that although the party acknowledged the current economic challenges of Ghanaians, the NPP saw the situation as another opportunity to do what it does best to get the country out of the current economic condition.
Mr Kodua recounted how the former John Agyekum Kufuor’s administration in 2001 inherited very difficult economic conditions, saying, “we showed our true mettle by not only overcoming the problems we met, but taking on the most ambitious programme of economic and social interventions.”
He said despite the gloomy economic condition at the onset of his administration, the Kufuor-led government performed what many had termed as a miraculous economic turn-around by his second tenure in office.
The National Chairman, Mr Stephen Ntim, in a brief remark, also said the new administration of the party would work closely with the government, the party’s Members of Parliament, the diaspora branches and all members to strengthen unity among members.
