Otumfuo Osei Tutu II commends John Mahama on paying regard to his advice

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has commended the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama for following his advice ahead of the December 7 elections.

During a courtesy call made by Mr. Mahama to the Asantehene as part of his campaign tour, Otumfuor Osei Tutu II, noted that, the opposition flagbearer has listened and applied his advice.

“I asked him to let Ghanaians know what he did when he was in office and how he will correct them.

“I think he has done exactly that.”

On August 27, 2020, the Asantehene, Otumfuor Osei Tutu II, chided NDC flag bearer John Dramani Mahama to reassure Ghanaians that the blunders made under his administration and term as President will not be repeated if he is re-elected in the upcoming December polls.

He made this comment during a visit by the former President to introduce his running mate, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang to him at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.

According to the Asantehene, it is important for Mahama to indulge in self-examination and clarify to Ghanaians the mistakes of the past and how he has corrected those mistakes to warrant a second chance.

“You have been a President before and you want to return again as President. I have spoken to you a lot and I have said that if you want to come back, let Ghanaians know what went wrong yesterday. Also let Ghanaians know that the mistakes won’t be repeated.

“When you lost the election, I said that Ghanaians voted against you out of disappointment and anger. And when you were re-elected as flag bearer and you informed me, I asked you whether you have looked at your mistakes in the past and how you can convince Ghanaians how you will correct those mistakes.”

He further stated, “the sitting President, Nana Akufo-Addo wants to be reelected for another 4 years and he has been going round explaining to Ghanaians what he has done. You have just told me what you did when you were President, and what you want to do if you get another chance. What you have to do is to tell Ghanaians the wrongs of the past and how you will correct those wrongs.”

The Asantehene also encouraged former President John Mahama to diligently let Ghanaians appreciate how he is going to improve the fortunes of the people if given the mandate in the elections.

Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, in her introduction to the King explained that she saw the need to visit the kingdom to seek counsel as paramount in the party’s bid to secure victory in the December polls.

According to the NDC running mate and former education minister, she will need the support of the chiefs and people of the kingdom to whip up the commitment of political parties to create a healthy atmosphere for development to thrive.
