Former US President, Barack Obama has said that it is “absolutely” time for President Donald Trump to concede the election adding that he should have already done so.

Mr Obama intimated that President Trump should have conceded defeat to Joe Biden “the day after the election” and it was time for America’s outgoing leader to “put the country first.”

“When your time is up then it’s your job to put the country first and think beyond your own ego and your own interests, and your own disappointments.

“My advice to President Trump is, if you want at this late stage in the game to be remembered as somebody who put country first, it’s time for you to do the same thing.”

Mr Obama also criticised the high-profile Republicans who have gone along with Mr Trump’s “unfounded claims of widespread voter fraud.”

“I’m more troubled by the fact that other Republican officials, who clearly know better are going along with this, are humouring him in this fashion,” he said.

“It is one more step in delegitimising not just the incoming Biden administration, but democracy generally. And that’s a dangerous path.”

The former president also claimed that Mr Trump’s “election fraud theories” are based on the fact that “the president doesn’t like to lose and never admits loss.”

Meanwhile, President Trump tweeted earlier that Joe Biden had “won because the election was rigged.”

“NO VOTE WATCHERS OR OBSERVERS allowed, vote tabulated by a radical left privately owned company, Dominion, with a bad reputation & bum equipment that couldn’t even qualify for Texas (which I won by a lot!), the Fake & Silent Media, & more!,” he added.

“He only won in the eyes of the FAKE NEWS MEDIA,” Mr Trump subsequently tweeted. “I concede NOTHING! We have a long way to go. This was a RIGGED ELECTION!”

Also, twenty protestors were arrested amid reports of a stabbing as Trump supporters clashed with counter protestors in Washington during a Million MAGA (Make America Great Again) March.

According to reports, the stabbing took place during a fight between two large groups. Two police officers were also injured and several firearms were recovered by authorities during the protests.

“Stop the steal!” and “We are the champions!” was chanted by the Million MAGA March crowd, which included members of the far-right Proud Boys group and Oath Keepers militia as they supported Mr Trump’s bid to stay in power nearly two weeks after election day.

Following the clashes, Mr Trump demanded that the city’s police and mayor “do their job” and called the counter protesters “radical left Antifa scum”.

He tweeted, “ANTIFA SCUM ran for the hills today when they tried attacking the people at the Trump Rally, because those people aggressively fought back. Antifa waited until tonight, when 99% were gone, to attack innocent #MAGA People. DC Police, get going — do your job and don’t hold back!!!”
