Valdo Calocane Faces Three Counts Of Murder

Valdo Calocane, suspect of the Nottingham Killings.

After three individuals were knocked down by a van and suffered horrific injuries, Valdo Calocane has been charged with attempted murder. On Saturday, the 31-year-old will appear before city magistrates to begin his trial.

Ian Coates, Barnaby Webber and Grace O’Malley-Kumar died at the scene of the attacks.

Shortly after 4:00 a.m. UK time, last Tuesday, Mr. Webber and Ms. O’Malley-Kumar, both University of Nottingham students, were tragically murdered in Ilkeston Road, while Mr. Coates, whose van was supposedly stolen, was discovered dead with knife wounds in Magdala Road.

Mr. Calocane has been charged with ramming into pedestrians with the van. The van was allegedly used to drive towards passersby by Mr. Calocane. According to Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) NHS Trust spokesman, the guy who was critically injured in Milton Street is now stable.

According to the police, there was apparently an attempt to run over two more pedestrians along Sherwood Street. They are thought to have just had minor wounds. According to Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), it had gotten a police referral and was looking into it.

“We have viewed dashcam footage from the police car, and can confirm the officer, in a single-crewed vehicle en route to a linked incident, had sight of the van for less than a minute before the collision in the South Sherwood Street area,” a spokesman for the police watchdog said.

“We will be contacting the two people injured in the collision to wish them a speedy recovery and advise them that we have decided to investigate this specific police interaction. Our investigation will consider whether the actions of the van driver were influenced by the police car’s presence shortly before he collided with the two pedestrians.”

“These charges are significant developments and arise as a result of our thorough investigation into these horrific incidents that occurred in our city,” Nottinghamshire Police Chief Constable Kate Meynell said.

“We are keenly aware of the deep emotion being felt surrounding these tragic events and the high level of interest, not only in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire but also across the whole country. However, posting prejudicial information online about an active case could amount to contempt of court and, in the most serious cases, have the potential to cause the collapse of a trial.”

Constable Kate Meynell, Nottinghamshire Police Chief.

The police earlier acknowledged Mr. Calocane was a former student at the University of Nottingham, but they added that “this is not believed to be connected to the attack.”

Thousands of people assembled during tearful vigils when family spoke to the public and paid respect to their loved ones. Also, relatives of Mr. Webber went to the scene of the stabbing on Friday. They claimed, they did so because “we owe it to both Barnaby and Grace to let them know we are here” and placed flowers at the location in Ilkeston Road.

“As has been expressed by so many already, heartbreak cannot begin to describe our loss. As painful as this tribute today has been, it is yet another step forward on the very long, dark journey, we have been forced to take.”
