The Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) has released its list of nominations and Ghana has socred immensely, with seventeen nominations.
Among the nominations were four actors chosen for different categories for their individual roles in their films.
Ghanaian television host who doubles as an actress, Joselyn Dumas, who plays Omoye, the wife of a retired army officer (Jim Iyke), in the drama Cold Feet was nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role.
Alphonse Menyo who plays Daniel in Pascal Aka’s Gold Coast Lounge also scored a nomination in the Best Actor in Leading Role category.
One of Ghana’s famous and respected actor, Adjetey Anang was also nominated for the Best Actor in Supporting Role award for his role in Gold Coast Lounge.
Christie Quincyna Quarcoopome also known in showbiz as Cina Soul who is a singer-songwriter and recording artist has also earned her first AMAA nomination for Best Young/Promising Actor. She plays Ama in the critically acclaimed film Gold Coast Lounge.
Shirley Frimpong-Manso who is a famous, film director, writer, producer and the founder and CEO of Sparrow Productions, a film, television and advertising production company has had her movie, ‘Ten Years Later’ score three nominations thus, Achievement in Screenplay, Editing and Production Design.
Shirley Frimpong-Manso’s Perfect Picture: ‘Gold Coast Lounge’s’ Director, Pascal Aka, was also nominated for Best Director and the movie for Best Film.

The movie scored four other nominations including Achievement in Cinematography, Achievement in Soundtrack, Achievement in Production Design and Achievement in Sound.
The film Heroes of Africa, Tetteh Quarshie also had three nominations namely, Achievement in Soundtrack, Achievement in Visual Effect and Achievement in Costume Design.
One animation, ‘I am Living In Ghana Get Me Out of Here’, was also nominated in the Best Animation category.
Its plot centres on a young Ghanaian-British girl who moved to the country after spending all her life in England.The story details her struggles as a diaspora in Ghana.
The Africa Movie Academy Awards, popularly known as AMAA and The AMA Awards, are presented annually to recognize excellence among professionals working in, or non-African professionals who have contributed to, the African film industry.
It was founded by Peace Anyiam-Osigwe and is run through the Africa Film Academy. The awards are aimed at honouring and promoting excellence in the African movie industry as well as uniting the African continent through arts and culture.
The award presentation is attended by numerous media representatives, celebrities, politicians, journalists, actresses and actors from all across the world.
The AMA Awards are widely considered to be Africa’s most important film event and the most prestigious film award in Africa.
AMAA is awarding filmmakers in 26 categories including Best Short Film and Best Documentary this year.
