Managing Director of the Ghana Publishing Company Limited, David Boateng Asante.

Managing director for the Ghana Publishing Company, David Asante Boateng, has revealed that his outfit is embarking on a nationwide expansion.

According to him, the Company has in last few years since he took over, chalked a few success stories that is worthy of sharing. He stated that hitherto, lands and other branches of the Company were sold. This, he indicated, has prompted the need to re-engineer the expansion of the Company to other regions.

“As we speak now, we are aggressively embarking on nationwide expansion of Ghana Publishing. Ghana Publishing Company Limited had branches all around the nations… Now, all these properties were put on divestiture and sold, so as we speak now, the whole of the Ghana Publishing Company Limited sits on about 2.5 acre property opposite Accra City Hotel – that is the only office the Company has, all the regional offices have been sold under the divestiture implementation program.”

Mr Boateng explained that the Board of directors gave the GPCL approval and management has commenced the re-establishment of regional offices and branches. He stated that his team undertook a trend analysis of the stream and income, to ascertain the ideal locations.

Following this, Mr Boateng revealed that the team concluded at management level that a huge chunk of business was coming from Ashanti region, and the three northern regions, hence the need to build offices there.

“So, we started the establishment of the first regional office under our management in the Ashanti region… As we speak now, we are hoping that within the year 2023 as we speak, we are hoping that before the year ends, we will inaugurate the Ashanti regional Ghana Publishing.

“I’ve had the opportunity to visit the place, the progress going on so far looks so okay. We are in touch with our Board of directors and sector minister. We are looking at November, we shall go and do a proper inauguration of the first regional office and branch of the Ghana Publishing Company Limited.”

Ensuring growth and sustainability of GPCL

Commenting on measures to ensure the sale of other branches of the Company don’t recur, Mr Boaten noted that government is committed to ensuring the growth of the publishing firm. He affirmed that although political parties come to office based on varying ideologies, the party is bent on seeing the GPCL thrive.

“There are instances where managers of the Company believe if the Company is not doing well, sell it off. When we assumed office at Ghana Publishing Company Limited, we believed that with prudent management of resources, we should be able to manage the Company well and even establish more branches.

“I do not think the NPP as a political tradition believes in the principle of run down a state institution to its knees and sell it to cronies – that is not what we believe in.”

Moreover, Mr Boateng expressed that government, as managers of state institutions under this administration, have potently manifested and demonstrated the position of championing continuity. One of the strategies, government is putting in place, he highlighted, is the revamping of state institutions that were formerly down.

“I remember when we inaugurated our new machines and new production unit at Ghana Publishing, our sector minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah stated that inaugurating the new machines and new production unit is good, but sustainability, maintenance culture is important.

“I will not be the managing director of Ghana Publishing forever; subsequent managers and leaders have the responsibility to take it from where we left off to another level…”

Meanwhile, Mr Baoteng indicated that the GPCL has equipped its human resource, such that, the Company currently has five directors. Additionally, he noted that for the first time in the history of the Company, members can equally boast of an IT directorate.
