On October 13, 2023, Israel ordered, “Civilians of Gaza City, evacuate south for your own safety and the safety of your families” however, the stark reality of continued airstrikes in Gaza, especially the south which was deemed “safe” has erased hopes of survival in many Palestinians.
Hope has been replaced with betrayal as those who obeyed Israel’s commands have lost loved ones, body parts or their very lives.
Israel continues to hit Khan Younis, amognst other places in the Southern Gaza Strip.
Simply put, nowhere is safe.
Many Palestinians are choosing to return north, tired of moving from place-to-place under Israeli fire amid appalling conditions in overcrowded shelters and persistent shortages of food and water in the south.
Ambulances, health workers as well as members of the press have faced the brunt.
An Israeli air raid has killed the wife, son, daughter and infant grandson of Wael Dahdouh, a news agency’s Gaza bureau chief in central Gaza after they evacuated to the area from Gaza City following a warning from Israel.
The incident on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, has left many berating themselves for leaving their homes to another region only to face the exact thing they were fleeing from.
Dahdouh said, “We had our doubts that the Israeli occupation would not let these people go without punishing them. And sadly, that is what happened. This is the ‘safe’ area that the occupation army spoke of.”
Commenting on the incident, Turkey’s Communications Director, Fahrettin Altun said, “These kinds of attacks amount to employing terror tactics against journalists to silence them.”
Altun posted on X, “The whole world has seen not only the October 7 attack against Israeli cities but also Israel’s indiscriminate attacks on civilians in Gaza that killed more than 6,000 civilians so far.”
“Besieging millions of civilians with no humanitarian aid allowed is inhumane and barbaric,” he added.
Altun said, “We advise the Israeli government to come to its senses about the crimes they have been committing on a daily basis.”
“It is no longer possible for Israel to shape the international public opinion while the whole world is witnessing the massacres and horrors in Gaza. PR campaigns cannot cover up the brutality of killing civilians with no regard to international law.”

Also, Altun iterated the call for an immediate ceasefire and negotiations to exchange prisoners. “International humanitarian aid must be allowed into Gaza,” he noted.
“The events of the past two weeks have shown that the ongoing Israeli occupation of Palestinian lands is the source of the problem, and it can no longer be ignored.
“The international community must discourage Israel from its current approach and press for a final resolution of the conflict through the two-state solution.”

The operation, which took place under the control of the Givati Brigade, one of the army’s five infantry units, was done in preparation for the “next stages of combat”, the army continued, adding that its forces exited Gaza at the end of the raid.
