NPP To Elect Parliamentary Candidates In Orphan Constituencies Today

The ruling New Patriotic Party will hold its extraordinary constituency delegates conference today Saturday, December 2, 2023, to choose it parliamentary candidates in constituencies where the party does not have parliamentary representation.

According to the party, the election would be conducted in 111 orphan constituencies across the 16 regions in the country except Ketu North, Akatsi North, Yilo Krobo, Jomoro, Fomena, and Bawku Central Constituencies.

A statement from the New Patriotic Party’s National Secretariat emphasized that the parliamentary elections would be held in the various polling centres the party used during its National Delegates Conference on November 4 2023.

“Constituency Executive Committees are, however, advised to coordinate with their respective Regional Executive Committees should a venue change be deemed necessary. Also, Regional Executive Committees are urged to inform the National Party of any venue changes by Monday, November 27, 2023”.

The election would be supervised by a parliamentary election committee in every constituency which comprises of the Chairperson of the Constituency Council of Elders as Chairman of the committee, the Chairman of the Constituency, the General Secretary of the Constituency, who is the Secretary to the Committee, an elderly woman in the constituency appointed by the Constituency Executive Committee and the Constituency Research and Elections Officer.

According to the statement by the National Secretariat of the party in any instance where the Constituency Chairperson is a contestant, the First Vice Chairman of the party in the particular constituency will assume the role on the committee as well and if the secretary is a contestant, the Assistant Secretary will undertake the responsibilities of the former.

NPP Pledges A Free And Fair Contest Ahead Of Polls

Meanwhile, the National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Stephen Ayensu Ntim has assured all the parliamentary aspirants and their supporters of an incidence-free parliamentary primaries.

According to the National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, the successful conduct of its parliamentary primaries in the various orphan constituencies across the country is very crucial in the party’s bid to retain power in the December 7, 2024, general elections.

Moreover, Mr Ntim stressed that the outcome of the party’s parliamentary primaries in the respective orphan constituencies across the country would be critical towards the party’s effort to increase its parliamentary seat in the December 7 2024 general elections.

“I am pleased with how we conducted ourselves in the Presidential primaries. The party is united and getting ready for the election of 2024. Our attention now is on a series of parliamentary primaries we will be conducting. We need to be united to maintain the seats we have and also add on. To this effect, this process is crucial for our forward march to victory as a party and we would make sure the right things are done”.

In addition, the National Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party, Mr Stephen Ntim urged the various Parliamentary Election Committees of the party across the 111 orphan constituencies to follow the structures and guidelines established by the party to ensure a free and fair parliamentary primaries.

Mr Ntim also appealed to all delegates and candidates to discharge their duties honourably while respecting and abiding by the procedures and processes that the party has put in place to ensure free and fair parliamentary primaries in their respective constituencies.

However, the election of parliamentary candidates in constituencies where the party has parliamentary representation is scheduled to take place in January 2024.
