Renowned Nigerian Afrobeat singer, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has shared the intriguing story behind his eye-catching frog pendant.

The multi-million-naira pendant from Ice Box holds sentimental value for the artist, as it symbolizes his response to derogatory comments about his voice on social media.

Davido revealed that he was once disparagingly referred to as a frog on social media platforms, particularly on Twitter, due to his distinctive hoarse voice. In a bold move, he decided to reclaim the narrative and channel the negativity into a unique fashion statement.

“I made a frog chain because my voice is hoarse, and they [trolls] were calling me frog on Twitter. I was like, you know what? I’m going to make a chain out of that sh*t,” the singer recounted. The decision to create an expensive frog neck pendant became a symbolic response to those who mocked him.

He highlighted a special ‘Timeless’ chain created to celebrate his album’s Grammy nomination, emphasizing the significance of patience and timing in his career.

Davido, born in the United States and raised in Lagos, has made a significant impact on the music scene. From his debut with the group KB International to solo success with hits like “Dami Duro,” he has become a household name in the Nigerian music industry. The frog pendant now stands as a testament to his resilience and ability to turn adversity into a unique expression of personal style.

He further listed ten essential items he cannot live without. He started by reminiscing about his childhood and how his love for popcorn grew over the years whenever he had a movie night with his family and friends.

For the celebrity, popcorn was one of the ten essentials he could not live without. He mentioned his aunt including cinnamon spice in the popcorn mix.

The next item on his ten essentials was his Bible on his tablet. Davido revealed that he had a community with whom he prayed, as the app on his phone and tablet often sent notifications of daily hymns and prayer points.

Thirdly, the artist expressed his love for jewelry and listed the names of his favorite jewelers which include a Patek, a Rollie, and Rolexes, which he can’t be seen without.

He mentioned his headphones, sneakers, sunglasses, Martell, cash, and toiletry bag (which includes his colognes).

Praying To Win Grammy Everyday

Davido stated that every day, he prays to win the Grammys.

Recall that Davido was nominated at the 2024 Grammys in three categories.

He received nominations for his fourth studio album, “Timeless,” in the Best Global Music Album category, and for his songs “Unavailable” and “Feel,” in the Best African Music Performance and Best Global Music Performance categories, respectively.

“Everybody knows what one of my prayer points is now. I have been nominated for three Grammys. So, everybody knows what I am praying for every day I wake up,” he said.

Davido will compete for Best Global Music Performance alongside Burna Boy, Arooj Aftab, Silvana Estrada, Béla Fleck, Falu, and Gaurav Shah.

In addition, he would face off against Bokante, Susana Baca, Burna Boy, and Shakti for the Best Global Music Album title.

He is up against well-known performers in the Best African Music Performance category, including Tyla from South Africa, Asake, Ayra Starr, and Burna Boy.

In another story, Davido and his wife Chioma turn up with other family members at Adeleke’s New Year party in St Kitts.

Nigerian culinary maestro, Chioma Adeleke, and her singer hubby, Davido Adeleke, recently basked in blissful moments at the Adelekes’ New Year party celebration, surrounded by an exuberant gathering of family members.

In videos shared by Adeleke family members, Chioma was seen with Davido’s brother and sister, Adewale and Sharon Adeleke, all smiles as they enjoyed drinks, reveled on the dance floor, and flashed cheerful grins for the camera.
