In a strategic move to bolster support for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and raise awareness about its 24-hour Economy policy, former President John Dramani Mahama is scheduled to lead a highly anticipated walk in the Ashanti Region on Wednesday, January 24, 2024.
The event, originally planned for December 2023, was postponed due to the District Level Elections, but the NDC leadership in the Ashanti Region has now confirmed that all arrangements are in place for the much-anticipated walk.
The announcement was made in a statement signed by the party’s Regional Secretary, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, affirming the participation of key party figures, including the former president and the party’s flagbearer John Dramani Mahama himself, the party’s National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, and all regional executives led by the Regional Chairman Augustus Andrews Nana Akwasi.
The procession is expected to traverse the principal streets of Kumasi, the regional capital, before concluding at the iconic Kumasi Jubilee Park.
“The planned route for the walk is as follows: Aboabo Post Office, through Pelele to On-the-ran to Manhyia Hospital, proceeding to Alabar Street, Kejetia Roundabout, Hello FM, A-life, Asafo Overpass, Labour Roundabout, and concluding at Jubilee Park”.

The statement further stated that the walk’s conclusion at the Kumasi Jubilee Park will be marked by speeches from key figures with former President John Mahama addressing the attendees to articulate the party’s stance on the 24-hour economy policy.
The statement emphasized that such a comprehensive approach by the party not only aims to raise awareness but also seeks to deepen the party’s roots in the region, making it a crucial event in the upcoming 2024 general elections.
According to the party’s Regional Secretary, Dr Frank Amoakohene, the significance of the 24-hour economy walk goes beyond a mere political rally as it is a concerted effort by the leadership of the National Democratic Congress to engage with the residents of the Ashanti Region and communicate the party’s vision for a 24-hour economy directly.
Dr Frank Amoakohene further indicated that the event would also provide an invaluable platform for former President John Dramani Mahama and other party leaders to connect with various sectors of the community, including traders, organised labour, artisans, and students.
Mahama Extends His Building Ghana Tour To Ashanti Region
Moreover, Dr Frank Amoakohene revealed that as part of the larger initiative, the party’s flagbearer, former President John Dramani Mahama is also set to embark on the ‘Building the Ghana We Want Tour’ in the Ashanti Region immediately after the walk to ensure meaningful interactions with the grassroots of the party and citizens as well.
According to him, Mr Mahama’s engagement strategy underscores the importance of listening to the concerns of the people and collecting direct feedback which will further solidify the connection between the National Democratic Congress and the residents of the Ashanti Region.
The National Democratic Congress in the Ashanti Region through its statement, expressed high expectations for a productive and interactive series of events, emphasising the belief that these engagements will strengthen the party’s connection with the people of the Ashanti Region.
It is without doubt that as the political landscape intensifies in the run-up to the December 7 2024 general elections, the success of the proposed 24-hour economy walk could significantly impact the opposition National Democratic Congress’s fortunes in the Ashanti Region and contribute to the party’s overall electoral strategy in the 2024 polls.
