President Promises To Resolve Dumsor

President Akuffo-Addo

President Akufo-Addo has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to ensure that Ghana does not experience persistent power challenges, commonly known as “dumsor,” during his presidency.

During the President’s national May Day celebrations address in Accra, he assured Ghanaians that all issues related to dumsor have been effectively addressed, encouraging the public to trust his word on the issue.

He pointed out that maintenance work on transformers and other essential infrastructure has been completed as he expressed gratitude to Ghanaians for their patience during the period of dumsor.

Furthermore, the President acknowledged the challenges faced by citizens during the period of erratic power supply and thanked them for their resilience.

As such, President Akufo-Addo highlighted his government’s efforts to ensure continuous electricity supply and promised not to backtrack on this achievement.

He emphasised that his administration had worked tirelessly to keep the lights on for Ghanaians, stating his intention to maintain this progress.

“As your president, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to all Ghanaians for their patience and understanding of recent temporary challenges with the electricity supply experienced across the country. Over the period, the issues surrounding maintenance of transformers and gas supply have been successfully resolved resulting in the reliability of electricity supply.”

Moreover, the President indicated that over the past few days, the country has witnessed a stable supply of electricity with no load-shedding reported anywhere as of yesterday, 30th April 2024.

He reiterated that for the past seven years, his government has worked tirelessly to keep the lights on and, emphasising that he “is confident that the unfortunate era of dumsor will not return”.

Speaking at the same event, the General Secretary of the Trades Union Congress, Dr. Yaw Baah, emphasised the critical need for President Akufo-Addo to keep to his word concerning the state of power supply in the country

As such, Dr. Baah stressed the importance of taking action to address the persistent power challenges faced by the country.

Moreover, he indicated that Ghanaians cannot afford to endure the effects of the power challenges any longer, as it is severely impacting businesses and could lead to widespread unemployment if not resolved promptly.

“Mr President, my second appeal is about dumsor. Mr President, it is regrettable that the people of Ghana have to experience dumsor again after all that we went through in the past, we have to go through it again. Please do something about it now.”

Government Committed To Resolving Power Crisis

Meanwhile, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for election 2024, has assured that the ongoing power crisis will soon be resolved.

In his remarks, Dr Bawumia reaffirmed the government’s commitment to addressing the outages and providing permanent solutions.

He further acknowledged that there are challenges with power generation and supply, emphasising that the NPP government will work on them.

As such, Dr Bawumia assured Ghanaians that the Energy Ministry has assured the government that it is actively managing the challenges in the power sector.

Ghanaians have been grappling with unannounced power outages since February, causing frustration and disruption to daily life.

Despite widespread demands for a load-shedding timetable, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has failed to provide one, leaving citizens in the dark about when the outages will occur.

ECG attributes the power challenges to faults with some transformers, but this explanation has done little to alleviate the concerns of Ghanaians.

The frequent outages have resulted in significant financial losses for businesses, which are struggling to operate effectively.

The lack of a reliable power supply is not only inconvenient but also has economic implications, impacting the livelihoods of many.

The government and ECG must take urgent action to address these power challenges and provide a stable electricity supply to support the growth and development of the country.
