New COVID-19 Measures Welcoming- Titus Beyuo

Deputy General Secretary of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), Dr. Titus Beyuo

The Deputy General Secretary of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), Dr. Titus Beyuo has welcomed and lauded President, Nana Akufo-Addo’s new directive on the measures to curb the spread of COVID-19 virus as a well thought through one.

Speaking in an interview this morning, he averred that, the strict enforcement and adherence to the new measures, hopefully will mitigate the deadly nature of the virus.

The GMA, prior to the announcement by the President, were advocating for a ban to be placed on various social gatherings and also an advancement in mass testing exercise in the quest to help curb the spread of the virus in the country which they described as alarming.

Dr. Beyuo, touching on the issue of containing the virus looking at the availability of equipment to the medical professionals disclose his outfit has no choice than to contain the virus. He then cautioned, with regards to the rapid increase in the number of cases that, if care is not taken the situation will get out of hand.

“With 700 a day, one will say it is not something that we have to joke with but we all have to help the health service. As it is now, we do not have a choice.”

With the issue of the number of passengers not reduced in various public transports, he explained that, it was not deliberately left out since various factors were considered by the President before outlining the new measures.

“The considerations were based on the economic and the general lifestyle of the people amongst others of our society. Now, if you look at our public transport system, clearly there is a potential for spread in our public transport.”

Additionally, Dr. Beyuo stated that it would have been a good idea for the government to have reintroduced the initial spacing arrangement in the various public transport systems since it is mostly an avenue where lots of people come into close contact.

He urged Ghanaians to adhere to the new protocols to help the health system in the country to fight COVID-19 which is rapidly spreading.

H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, yesterday, January 31, 2021 in his 23rd update on measures taken against the spread of the virus reintroduced some protocols as well as introduced new ones as part of measures to stop the spread.

The President, placed a ban on funerals, weddings and concerts and theatrical performances and allowed for private burials with not more than twenty-five people to take place with the enforcement of the social distancing, hygiene and mask wearing protocols.

The President further directed all workplaces both public and private to employ a shift-system for workers, in addition to the use of virtual platforms for business or work.

He directed also that, conferences and workshops must take place with all the appropriate protocols, however, encouraging the use of virtual platforms for such engagements.
