The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Vice Presidential Candidate, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, is set to commence a three-day tour of the Western North Region starting Tuesday, October 1, 2024.

James Agyenim-Boateng, the spokesperson for Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, in a statement, indicated that the tour is aimed at canvassing votes for both the National Democratic Congress’s presidential and parliamentary candidates as the party intensifies its campaign ahead of the December 7 general elections.

“Prof. Opoku-Agyemang will canvass for votes for NDC’s presidential and parliamentary elections tickets in Aowin, Suaman, Bodi, Bia East, Bia West, Sefwi Wiawso, Sefwi Akontombra and Bibiani Ahwiaso Bekwai Constituencies”.

During her interactions with community members and local leaders, she will emphasize the NDC’s strategic plans aimed at resetting the country’s economic trajectory and enhancing livelihoods across various sectors.

Central to her message will be the National Democratic Congress’s comprehensive roadmap to create jobs, particularly in rural and peri-urban communities, rejuvenate Ghana’s critically important cocoa sector, and significantly improve education.

The former Minister of Education will also focus on women’s empowerment, a core pillar of her campaign, unveiling a policy proposal to establish a Women’s Development Bank.

This institution is designed to offer targeted financial support to women entrepreneurs, enabling them to access capital, grow their businesses, and contribute meaningfully to the national economy.

The three-day tour is expected to culminate in a major rally at Sefwi Wiawso, the regional capital, where thousands of party supporters are anticipated to gather in a show of solidarity.

The tour comes at a critical time when the opposition National Democratic Congress is ramping up efforts to consolidate its base in the Western North Region, a key battleground in the elections.

The party’s leadership believes the area holds significant sway in determining the outcome of both the presidential and parliamentary contests and Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s engagement is expected to energize supporters while drawing new voters to the NDC’s fold.

NDC National Women’s Conference

Earlier today, in a prelude to her Western North tour, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang is set to address the National Democratic Congress Women’s Conference in Kumasi.

The conference will bring together hundreds of women from diverse professional backgrounds and will witness Prof. Opoku-Agyemang outlining the National Democratic Congress’s vision for creating a more inclusive economy where women are not only beneficiaries of economic growth but also key drivers of development.

Additionally, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang is scheduled to launch the campaign of the National Democratic Congress’s parliamentary candidate for the Upper Denkyira West Constituency later today at the Ayamfuri Community Centre.

The event is expected to draw party faithful from across the constituency as the NDC seeks to flip the seat, currently held by the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

James Agyenim-Boateng, the spokesperson for Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, in the statement, reaffirmed the NDC’s dedication to ushering in a new era of growth and accountability.

He noted that the tour of the Western North Region is just one of many engagements the party has planned as it seeks to secure the mandate of the Ghanaian people in the upcoming elections.

The National Democratic Congress’s message ahead of the December 7 polls has been entered on restoring hope for Ghanaians through pragmatic policies aimed at reversing the current economic downturn.

The opposition party, particularly its flagbearer and running mate, have consistently positioned themselves as champion for the marginalized, particularly women and the youth, arguing that their empowerment is essential to national progress.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s presence on the campaign trail continues to signal the NDC’s commitment to engaging directly with the people and addressing their concerns, particularly in regions like Western North, where development challenges remain a key issue for residents.
