Ablakwa pledges the government's commitment to resolving the Gbenyiri conflict

HON. SAMUEL OKUDZETO ABLAKWA, FOREIGN AFFAIRS MINISTER

Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, MP for North Tongu, has stated that those involved in the state capture will soon face accountability.

He highlighted that the politicians who collaborated with the Lands Commission and the La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly to demolish the North Labone property will be held responsible.

According to Hon. Ablakwa, this act robbed the Lomotey/Adotey family of a property they legally purchased from the State Housing Company and owned for over 60 years.

“Instructively, amongst the multiple intercepted documents attached to this publication is a letter from the Lands Commission dated 5th September, 2024 signed by Regional Lands Officer, Timothy Anyidoho confirming that the Lands Commission concedes to making an egregious error in leasing the land in issue to the politically connected Dream Citrix Limited”.

Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa

The astute MP further pointed out that it is highly unlikely anyone genuinely believes the Lands Commission simply made an innocent mistake in this matter.

He suggested that such a significant decision could not be dismissed as a mere error, especially given the impact on the Lomotey/Adotey family.

Ablakwa went on to argue that this delayed admission from the Lands Commission may never have surfaced at all if there had not  been such widespread and vocal public outrage.

He indicated that the strong reaction from the public was likely a key factor in pressuring the Commission to acknowledge its actions.

Hon. Ablakwa observed that, although the Lands Commission is now hastily retreating from its previous stance and Dream Citrix has withdrawn its unfounded court case, the politically connected owners of Dream Citrix remain determined to achieve their goals with impunity.

He pointed out that, even amid the controversy, these owners are still benefiting from heightened police protection, which enabled them to demolish a wall the Lomotey/Adotey family tried to build to secure their now exposed land.

Ablakwa expressed concern that such actions highlight disregard for accountability and justice.

Furthermore, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa disclosed that the recent event marks the second occasion in which Dream Citrix, a company established shortly after the NPP assumed power in 2017, has benefited from extensive police and national security protection for its demolition activities.

Ablakwa highlighted that this protection has allowed Dream Citrix to push forward in its efforts to claim the highly valuable Plot Number 94 in North Labone, despite the controversy surrounding its actions.

STATE CAPTURE

He expressed concern that the involvement of state security forces seems to underscore a pattern of undue influence and impunity linked to powerful political connections.

“So far, the Lomotey/Adotey family have not been compensated for their demolished property neither has their petitions to government and the IGP been responded to.

“Five other families facing similar cruel brazen political robberies within the Labone, Cantonments, Airport enclave have narrated similar ordeals to me”.

Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa

Ablakwa strongly emphasized that Ghana cannot be allowed to descend into a lawless and chaotic state simply because of the unchecked greed of a small group of powerful “lootocrats” engaged in State Capture.

He stressed that such individuals, driven by their insatiable desire for personal gain, should not be allowed to undermine the rule of law and the principles of justice that the country stands for.

Ablakwa called for a firm stand against these corrupt forces, warning that permitting their actions would erode the integrity of the nation and threaten its future stability.

However, he asserted that change is on the way, with Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) set to address the ongoing issues and restore justice.

Ablakwa emphasized that ORAL will not only fix the current mess but also hold all those involved in the plundering of the nation’s resources accountable for their actions.

He noted that this is to ensure that such misconduct is no longer tolerated. “State Capture shall surely be defeated”.
