President John Dramani Mahama

In a firm declaration of his administration’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption, President John Dramani Mahama has vowed to take immediate action upon receipt of the comprehensive report of Operation Recover All the Loot (ORAL), an anti-corruption initiative aimed at reclaiming misappropriated public funds.

The initiative, which underscores the government’s commitment to accountability, has uncovered financial malfeasance and resource diversions that have cost Ghana dearly in development and public welfare.

Speaking at the report’s presentation, President Mahama reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to ensuring that state resources serve the collective good of the people, not private interests.

He described the findings as both sobering and revealing, shedding light on the scale of financial leakages that have denied citizens essential services in education, healthcare, and infrastructure.

“From the onset of my administration, I made it clear. Ghana’s resources belong to the people of Ghana and must be used judiciously for their collective good. The diversion of public funds for personal gain undermines developments, it erodes public trust and deepens inequality.”

The ORAL initiative, he explained, was launched to recover funds looted from the state and hold those responsible accountable.

He commended the team for their dedication and professionalism in carrying out this crucial assignment without compensation or expectation of remuneration.

Alarming Revelations, Renewed Commitment to Justice

The report details extensive investigations, legal actions, and asset recoveries, painting a stark picture of financial mismanagement and corruption within public institutions.

The President noted that these findings highlight the urgent need for decisive action to close loopholes that have enabled the diversion of public funds.

However, President Mahama also struck a hopeful tone, assuring Ghanaians that every pesewa recovered would be redirected into national development projects.

“As we receive this report, let me assure the Ghanaian people that the work does not end here. The recommendations of the report will be carefully studied and where legal action and investigations are warranted, they will be pursued without fear or favour.”

In a significant move, the President announced that the report had already been handed over to the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, with firm instructions to commence immediate investigations and prosecute anyone found culpable of corruption.

“To those who think they can defraud the state and escape justice, let this serve as a strong warning—Ghana is no longer a safe haven for corruption,” President Mahama warned.

President Mahama called on all Ghanaians—citizens, civil society, the media, and public officials—to play their part in fighting corruption.

He stressed that building a just, transparent, and prosperous nation requires a collective effort, saying“This is a defining moment in our fight against corruption. Together, we will build a Ghana where honesty and hard work are rewarded.”

The establishment of the Operation Recover All the Loot team was a strategic move by President Mahama to fulfil his campaign promise of tackling corruption head-on.

Formed as part of his transition agenda, ORAL was tasked with gathering credible information on suspected corruption cases, recovering stolen funds, and ensuring that those responsible face justice.

The team officially announced in a statement signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the spokesperson for the Mahama Transition Team, comprisd seasoned professionals with extensive experience in governance, law, finance, and investigative journalism.

The ORAL team was chaired by Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, MP for North Tongu and included: Daniel Yaw Domelevo, former Auditor General, and Martin Kpebu, a private legal practitioner and anti-corruption advocate.

Other members were COP (Rtd.) Nathaniel Kofi Boakye, a retired senior police officer and Raymond Archer, an investigative journalist.

President Mahama’s decisive action marks a significant shift in Ghana’s anti-corruption efforts, reinforcing his administration’s commitment to good governance.

With the ORAL team’s revelations now in the hands of the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, expectations are high that justice will be served and that Ghana’s lost resources will be reclaimed for the benefit of its people.
