The West African Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCO) has successfully completed critical pipeline maintenance activities and resumed gas transportation services across Ghana, Togo, and Benin.

The company announced the completion ahead of schedule, marking a significant achievement in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of its pipeline system.

The maintenance project, which spanned four weeks, involved comprehensive offshore pipeline cleaning and inspection, subsea valve replacements, and other essential works across multiple locations in Ghana, Togo, Benin, and Nigeria.

Despite the complexities and potential disruptions, the maintenance was executed efficiently, with minimal impact on stakeholders. WAPCO’s Managing Director, Michelle Burkett, praised the team for their dedication and expertise in successfully carrying out the project.

“I want to congratulate every member of our team for their dedication and professionalism.

“This was a complex project, and your hard work, even in the face of challenges, made it a success.”

Michelle Burkett, WAPCO’s Managing Director

The maintenance activities were crucial in maintaining the integrity of the West African Gas Pipeline (WAGP), a critical infrastructure that transports natural gas from Nigeria to its neighboring West African countries.

WAPCO reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the highest safety and operational standards, ensuring continued service delivery to its customers and stakeholders.

“While some countries experienced temporary disruptions due to the shutdown of the laterals, our teams worked tirelessly to ensure that maintenance was carried out swiftly and safely.

“The results speak for themselves, and I couldn’t be prouder of what we’ve achieved.”

The successful completion of the project was made possible through strong collaboration with key stakeholders. WAPCO extended its appreciation to the governments of Benin, Ghana, Nigeria, and Togo for their continued support in facilitating the maintenance efforts.

“We also appreciate the efforts of the maritime and regulatory authorities in these countries, along with our customers, shippers, gas off-takers, host communities, shareholders, and all other stakeholders, for their valuable collaboration and contributions to the success of the project.”

Michelle Burkett, WAPCO’s Managing Director

The project’s completion ensures that gas transportation services resume with improved efficiency and reliability. WAPCO remains committed to delivering high-quality service while prioritizing safety, environmental sustainability, and infrastructure longevity.

The West African Gas Pipeline plays a vital role in energy security and economic development in the sub-region by providing a steady supply of natural gas to power industries and households.

The resumption of operations is expected to stabilize gas supply in the affected countries, thereby supporting industrial activities and economic growth.

As energy demand continues to rise across the region, WAPCO’s role in ensuring the steady supply of natural gas remains indispensable.

By completing this essential maintenance project, WAPCO has not only fulfilled its responsibility to its stakeholders but has also reinforced its position as a trusted and dependable energy infrastructure provider in West Africa.

With this milestone, WAPCO reaffirms its role as a leading energy infrastructure provider in West Africa.

The company has assured its customers of consistent service while continuing to invest in maintaining and upgrading the pipeline system to meet growing energy demands.

The success of this maintenance project highlights WAPCO’s proactive approach to infrastructure management and its unwavering commitment to regional energy cooperation.

As the company moves forward, it remains focused on innovation, sustainability, and operational excellence in gas transportation within the West African sub-region.
