The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) and Kosmos Energy Plc, a key player in Ghana’s upstream oil and gas sector, have reaffirmed their commitment to collaboration in optimizing production at the Jubilee Field.

In a high-level meeting, both parties discussed a strategic roadmap to ensure the long-term viability of the field, which remains central to Ghana’s crude oil production.

The meeting, chaired by GNPC Acting CEO Kwame Ntow Amoah and Kosmos Energy Chairman and CEO Andy Inglis, brought together senior executives from both organizations.

The discussions focused on maximizing resource recovery, improving operational efficiency, and ensuring sustainability in Ghana’s oil and gas industry.

During the meeting, both GNPC and Kosmos Energy agreed to adopt new technologies to enhance oil recovery and extend the field’s productive lifespan.

The Jubilee Field, discovered in 2007, has been a major contributor to Ghana’s oil production. As the field matures, GNPC and Kosmos Energy are exploring enhanced oil recovery (EOR) techniques to maximize resource extraction.

These methods include carbon dioxide injection, thermal recovery, and chemical EOR, which can significantly improve oil recovery rates.

Additionally, real-time data monitoring was highlighted as a crucial tool for optimizing field performance. By leveraging advanced digital technologies, operators can track production metrics, detect anomalies, and make data-driven decisions to enhance efficiency.

Both organizations reaffirmed their commitment to regular strategic engagements, aiming to monitor progress and identify new opportunities for cooperation.

The meeting underscored the importance of sustainability, with discussions on reducing environmental impact and integrating renewable energy solutions into oil and gas operations.

“Investing in local talent is essential for the long-term success of Ghana’s oil and gas sector.”

A key focus was knowledge transfer and local capacity building. GNPC and Kosmos Energy aim to elevate Ghanaian expertise in the industry through joint technology initiatives, training programs, and mentorship opportunities.

“Building local expertise is key to ensuring a sustainable industry. Our goal is to increase Ghanaian participation in all aspects of the upstream sector.”

Additionally, the partners discussed ways to align their operations with Ghana’s broader energy policies, ensuring that the oil and gas sector remains a driver of national development.  “We must ensure that Ghana’s oil industry remains resilient and capable of adapting to future market dynamics,” said Mike Anderson, a senior executive at Kosmos Energy.

The alignment between GNPC and Kosmos Energy signals a proactive approach to navigating the evolving dynamics of Ghana’s upstream sector.

The Jubilee Field remains a vital contributor to the nation’s energy landscape, and strategic collaborations like this will ensure its continued success.

The next phase of engagement will focus on implementing advanced recovery techniques, expanding digital monitoring capabilities, and fostering innovation in Ghana’s oil and gas industry.

As the sector adapts to global energy transitions, GNPC and Kosmos Energy’s partnership will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Ghana’s petroleum industry.
