Gyampo Denies Recruitment, Travel Allegations, Defends GSA Conduct

Gyampo denies recruitment and travel allegations

Professor Ransford Gyampo

Professor Ransford Gyampo, Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers’ Authority (GSA), has responded to what he calls unfounded allegations concerning recruitment and travel at the Authority, which have been making the rounds on social media and various radio platforms.

The outspoken academic and administrator categorically denied claims that he has engaged in improper recruitment practices or misused travel privileges since taking office.

According to Prof. Gyampo, he is not responsible for recruitment at the Ghana Shippers Authority and has never overseen the hiring of “28 women and two men,” as widely alleged.

He explained that, historically, recruitment at the Authority has been handled independently by an outsourced private agency with a reputation for conducting rigorous and professional selection procedures.

“My attention has been drawn to some allegations made against me on some radio stations and on social media. I wish to thank all my admirers for calling on me to ignore and not to respond.

“But unfortunately, lies become truth in the psyche of many people in Ghana when they aren’t corrected and so, I plead that I am allowed to respond, not to the grand scheme against me because of my vociferousness against bad governance in the previous regime, but merely as a way to set the records straight”

Prof. Gyampo further addressed rumors about frequent travel at the expense of taxpayers. Contrary to the claims, he said his duties sometimes require travel, but out of 38 possible engagements, he has only accepted four invitations.

Each of these trips, he stressed, was made with the full knowledge and explicit approval of the Chief of Staff.

He also dismissed the notion that he has traveled in luxury, asserting that he has never flown First Class or Business Class in any of his journeys as GSA boss.

Instead, he maintained that he has consistently opted for Economy Class tickets, making him the only CEO in the country, to his knowledge, who does so. Supporting documentation, he added, including boarding passes, is available to verify these facts.

Legal Showdown Looms as Gyampo Responds

Furthermore, Prof. Ransford Gyampo indicated that legal proceedings are already underway in response to the accusations.

He revealed that his personal legal team, along with other legal professionals who have voluntarily shown interest in the case, have taken up the matter and are preparing to confront those responsible for the claims.

This move signals his intent to pursue the issue through the appropriate legal channels in the coming days.

He reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining the public’s trust, stating that he is fully aware of the confidence placed in him and has no intention of doing anything to compromise that trust.

Prof. Gyampo emphasized that such unsubstantiated accusations have never been enough to deter him from speaking out or carrying out his duties, and they certainly won’t silence him now.

“I would remain myself and would always speak my mind on every national issue while focusing on my core job of championing the interests of shippers forcefully and proactively.”

Prof. Gyampo also extended gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for reinstating the historical significance of July 1 as Republic Day, taking a swipe at the previous government’s decision to downplay the occasion.

“1st July is 1st July!” he declared, applauding what he described as a rightful restoration of Ghana’s national heritage.

Meanwhile, the GSA boss’s response has sparked discussions across traditional and digital media platforms, with many commending his transparency and commitment to public accountability.

While legal proceedings are set to unfold in the coming days, Prof. Gyampo’s message is clear: he will not be cowed by false accusations, and his commitment to serving the interests of the Shippers’ Authority remains unwavering.
