We’ll cooperate to bring finality- Chief Imam on Wesley Girls Brouhaha

National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu

The National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu has assured that the Muslim community will cooperate on any step taken to resolve the ongoing issue of religious freedom in the country.

In an address read on behalf of the Chief Imam to mark the Eid-Ul Fitr celebration,;he indicated that they will not do anything to disturb the peace of the country.

“Suffice it to say, our interfaith harmony and solidarity has suffered a major set back by;the recent media altercations on the religious freedom and justice. We wish to assure you and everybody, Your Excellency, that the Muslim Ummah in Ghana under the able leadership of the meek and peace loving National Chief Imam, whose spirit and predisposition gives indication unequivocally his preferred choice all the time.

“We will cooperate in any step and measure taken by all stakeholders;and state authorities to bring finality to the misunderstanding.”

The National Chief Imam, also lauded the measures government is taking to improve the country;and the well being and quality of life of Ghanaians.

He noted that what has captured his mind is;the Presidents’ renewed commitment to fight galamsey to save waterbodies and forests from destruction and also his stance against homosexuals.

“We also note with satisfaction for making your position clear on;the detestable objectionable and loathsome practice of same sex marriage;and related homosexuality relations which we consider predatory to the very institution of family life. “

Speaking on COVID-19, he appreciated the President’s relentless effort to fight against the pandemic and its containment. also

“You have tried your best to provide some vaccines and your periodic address in this pandemic is highly appreciated.”

Unemployment still a challenge

Touching on challenges, Sheikh Osmanu Sharabutu indicated that there is still rising rate of unemployment in the country among the youth. This, he explained, is the reason for which the youth engage in some of the most negative things.

“Corruption remains a perception that is going around which needs to be tackled. National security also remains a challenge. Get rich quick is still a syndrome and political polarization in all issues remains a problem that needs to be addressed so we can have a country that is fully integrated.”

He then thanked the President for the wide range of the support he and;the Muslim community has received from his government.

The Chief Imam indicated that the Muslim community is looking forward to seeing the materialization of;the President’s promise to establish model schools in all Zongos in the 16 regions.

“This is something that will be significant in transforming our society;and providing opportunity that will guarantee transformation and development of our youth. We want our youth to change and become useful tools to our development. And that which guarantees this, is only through our education.”

The Chief Imam also thanked the President for the presentation of scholarships to some 40 students;to study Medical Science in Cuba. This, he said, is aimed at providing the opportunity for them to also participate in improving the health facilities in the country.

“We also know about the plans to take the next 40. And I am looking forward to it.”
