Tensions in the Bosomtwe District of the Ashanti Region have eased following swift intervention by the Ghana Police Service after violent clashes between residents of Asisiriwa and Brodekwano left two people dead and several properties destroyed. The incident, which unfolded on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, triggered fear and uncertainty among residents, prompting urgent security deployment and high-level engagement to restore calm.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command confirmed that the situation has since been brought under control, although investigations are ongoing and security presence has been significantly increased in both communities.

According to police reports, distress calls were received indicating that a group of youth from Brodekwano had allegedly invaded Asisiriwa, sparking violent confrontations between residents of the two communities. Security personnel from the Kuntanase District Police Command, supported by the Asokwa Divisional Command and the Regional Operations Unit, were quickly deployed to the area.

Police Respond to Deadly Community Clash

Upon arrival, officers encountered scenes of destruction, including roads blocked with lorry tyres and abandoned, burnt motorbikes.Two young men, later identified as Peterson Bonsu, also known as “Low Key,” aged about 23, and Kwaku Opoku, aged about 25, were found dead with multiple cutlass wounds. Their bodies were conveyed to the Jachie-Pramso Government Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy

At Brodekwano, a commercial sprinter bus was also found completely burnt, indicating the scale of the violence and the intensity of the clashes. Preliminary findings suggest that the violence may have originated from a personal dispute involving a young man from Asisiriwa and a young woman from Brodekwano.

The situation reportedly escalated into retaliatory attacks, drawing in youth groups from both communities and resulting in widespread unrest. This aligns with earlier reports that the conflict quickly spiralled beyond the initial disagreement into broader communal violence.

Police Engage Leaders and Restore Calm

In a bid to de-escalate tensions, the Ashanti Regionral Commander, DCOP Arthur Osei-Akoto, led a team of senior officers to both communities, where they engaged chiefs, elders, and youth leaders.The engagement was aimed at fostering dialogue, calming tensions, and preventing further retaliatory attacks.

Police indicated that these discussions played a key role in restoring calm and stabilising the situation.
