Tensions in the Bosomtwe District of the Ashanti Region have eased following swift intervention by the Ghana Police Service after violent clashes between residents of Asisiriwa and Brodekwano left two people dead and several properties destroyed. The incident, which unfolded on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, triggered fear and uncertainty among residents, prompting urgent security deployment and high-level engagement to restore calm.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command confirmed that the situation has since been brought under control, although investigations are ongoing and security presence has been significantly increased in both communities.
According to police reports, distress calls were received indicating that a group of youth from Brodekwano had allegedly invaded Asisiriwa, sparking violent confrontations between residents of the two communities. Security personnel from the Kuntanase District Police Command, supported by the Asokwa Divisional Command and the Regional Operations Unit, were quickly deployed to the area.

Police Respond to Deadly Community Clash
Upon arrival, officers encountered scenes of destruction, including roads blocked with lorry tyres and abandoned, burnt motorbikes. Two young men, later identified as Peterson Bonsu, also known as “Low Key,” aged about 23, and Kwaku Opoku, aged about 25, were found dead with multiple cutlass wounds. Their bodies were conveyed to the Jachie-Pramso Government Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy
At Brodekwano, a commercial sprinter bus was also found completely burnt, indicating the scale of the violence and the intensity of the clashes. Preliminary findings suggest that the violence may have originated from a personal dispute involving a young man from Asisiriwa and a young woman from Brodekwano.
The situation reportedly escalated into retaliatory attacks, drawing in youth groups from both communities and resulting in widespread unrest. This aligns with earlier reports that the conflict quickly spiralled beyond the initial disagreement into broader communal violence.
Police Engage Leaders and Restore Calm
In a bid to de-escalate tensions, the Ashanti Regionral Commander, DCOP Arthur Osei-Akoto, led a team of senior officers to both communities, where they engaged chiefs, elders, and youth leaders. The engagement was aimed at fostering dialogue, calming tensions, and preventing further retaliatory attacks.

Police indicated that these discussions played a key role in restoring calm and stabilising the situation. Following the intervention, security presence in the area has been intensified, with continuous patrols and monitoring to ensure that peace is sustained. Officers have also begun investigations to identify and arrest individuals involved in the violence.
Authorities stressed that maintaining law and order remains a priority, especially in the aftermath of such incidents where tensions can easily resurface.Residents have been urged to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as investigations continue.
Incident Exposes Risks of Localised Disputes
The clash between Asisiriwa and Brodekwano highlights how personal disputes can escalate into wider community conflicts if not managed early. In many parts of Ghana, similar incidents have been triggered by interpersonal disagreements, land issues, or youth rivalries, often resulting in violence, loss of life, and destruction of property.
In this case, what reportedly began as a relationship dispute quickly drew in larger groups, leading to coordinated attacks and retaliation between the two communities.Residents in the area have expressed concerns about safety and the possibility of further violence, with some calling for sustained police presence to deter reprisals and protect lives and property.
Police Call for Cooperation and Vigilance
The Ghana Police Service has called on residents of both communities to exercise restraint and avoid any acts of retaliation.
“The Police urge residents to remain calm and cooperate with ongoing investigations as efforts continue to maintain peace and security.”
Police report from Kumasi Public Affairs Unit.
Authorities also emphasised the importance of community cooperation in identifying perpetrators and supporting efforts to ensure justice for victims.Community leaders have been encouraged to continue engaging their youth and promoting peaceful coexistence to prevent further escalation.

While calm has been restored, the situation remains under close monitoring by security agencies. The incident serves as a reminder of the fragile nature of peace in communities where underlying tensions exist, and the importance of timely intervention by authorities.
Going forward, sustained police presence, community dialogue, and conflict resolution mechanisms will be critical in maintaining long-term stability in the Bosomtwe District. As investigations progress, attention will focus on accountability, justice for the victims, and measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
