FC Barcelona defeated arch-rivals Real Madrid 2-0 at Camp Nou to clinch the 2025-26 Spanish La Liga title, successfully defending their crown with three games left to play.

First-half goals from Marcus Rashford and Ferran Torres sealed the victory for the Catalan giants, who secured their 29th Spanish league title and a second consecutive league triumph in the competition.

Barcelona entered the encounter with several of their standout performers this season left on the bench. The likes of Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski and Jules Kounde were all left out of the starting eleven, but Hansi Flick’s side still produced a disciplined and clinical display to overcome their bitter rivals.

The victory opened a commanding 14-point gap over nearest challengers Real Madrid and confirmed Barcelona as champions long before the end of the campaign.

Their consistency throughout the season has once again underlined their dominance in Spanish football in recent years.

Although Barcelona have now won 29 La Liga titles, they still trail Real Madrid in the all-time standings, with Los Blancos having lifted the trophy 36 times in their history.

Nevertheless, the Blaugrana remain the second most successful club in the competition and continue to strengthen their reputation as one of Europe’s elite sides.

Barcelona Continue Domestic Dominance

Barcelona’s latest success also highlights their impressive consistency over the past decade.

They have now won La Liga five times in the last ten seasons, including the current campaign, and have lifted the title three times in the last four seasons.

During the same period, Real Madrid have managed four league triumphs, while Atletico Madrid have claimed one title.

Real Madrid interim head coach Alvaro Arbeloa showed good sportsmanship after the final whistle and acknowledged Barcelona’s achievement. “Congrats to Barca,” Arbeloa said after the game.

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick also praised his players for their performance but admitted that the victory did not come easily against their fierce rivals. “It was not easy. Real Madrid are a fantastic team,” said the Barcelona tactician.

Despite missing several key stars from the starting lineup, Barcelona controlled large spells of the game and looked more composed in crucial moments. Rashford opened the scoring inside the opening 10 minutes with a stunning free kick before Ferran Torres doubled the advantage nine minutes later to put the hosts firmly in control.

Real Madrid struggled to find a response in the second half as Barcelona remained organised defensively and managed the game effectively in front of their home supporters.

The defeat also confirmed a disappointing campaign for Madrid, who will now finish the season without silverware for the first time since the 2020-21 season.
