Trump Optimistic About Diplomatic Solution With Iran

US President, Donald Trump.

Donald Trump has said that he thinks a diplomatic solution with Iran is still achievable, claiming that he has had a deal with Tehran “four or five times.”

The U.S. President made the remarks as international attention remains focused on efforts to end the ongoing confrontation involving the United States and Iran, a conflict that has disrupted regional stability, threatened shipping routes and shaken global energy markets.

Speaking about the prospects for diplomacy, Trump suggested that opportunities for an agreement had emerged repeatedly during engagements with Tehran.

“I think it’s very possible. Look, I’ve had a deal with them [the Iranians] four or five times. They change their mind.”

Donald Trump

His statement suggests that negotiations have repeatedly approached breakthrough moments before ultimately stalling or collapsing. The repeated breakdown of talks highlights the deep mistrust that continues to define the relationship between the two countries.

Trump’s latest comments indicate that the administration still sees diplomacy as a viable route to ending the crisis. His remarks also contrast with the sharp language that has frequently characterized exchanges between Washington and Tehran in recent weeks.

Efforts to negotiate an agreement have reportedly centered on issues including Iran’s nuclear program, regional security arrangements and guarantees regarding freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. Both sides, however, have continued to accuse each other of acting in bad faith.

Iranian officials and state media have previously criticized U.S. proposals as unacceptable and inconsistent with Iran’s sovereignty, while American officials have insisted that any agreement must address what Washington sees as threats posed by Tehran’s actions in the region.

In line with his usual demeaning of Iran’s leadership, Trump called them “very dishonourable people” and went on to claim he was dealing with the “third level” of Iranian leadership. The “unreasonable” first level is gone, he claimed, and the second level “is more reasonable.”

“The third level, nobody wants to be President, you know? They say ‘who wants to be President?’ Nobody raises their hand.”

Donald Trump

It’s unclear who Trump is referring to when he makes these comments because Iran has a President, Masoud Pezeshkian.

Back to the prospect of a deal, Trump added that Iranian leadership changes its mind.

“You know, the mind changes … these people, you make a deal, then the next day they send you a document that takes five days to get there, when it should have been there in 20 minutes. You know, it’s a pretty simple document.”

Donald Trump

While the President expressed confidence that diplomacy could still succeed, the broader environment remains volatile, with military operations, economic pressures and political messaging continuing alongside negotiations.

At the same time, the possibility of renewed military escalation remains present. Recent statements from both U.S. and Iranian officials have indicated that while talks continue, preparations for further confrontation have not been abandoned.

Trump’s comments may therefore be interpreted as an attempt to project optimism about negotiations while maintaining pressure on Iran to engage seriously in diplomacy. By saying a deal remains possible, the President appeared to signal that Washington is still willing to pursue talks despite the setbacks and tensions that have emerged.

Ceasefire ‘Unbelievably Weak’ And On Life Support

Trump’s hope for diplomatic solution came despite saying earlier that the ceasefire was “on life support.” Commenting on the state of the ceasefire, Trump said it is “unbelievably weak.”

“I would say the ceasefire is on massive life support, where the doctor walks in and says, ‘Sir, your loved one has approximately a 1% chance of living’.”

Donald Trump

He also told reporters that Iran’s response to the US peace plan was a “stupid proposal” and “a piece of garbage” that he didn’t finish reading.

The President added that Tehran’s latest peace proposal did not include a guarantee to not have a nuclear weapon.“They just can’t get there so they agree with us, and then they take it back,” he noted.

“Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon and they won’t have a nuclear weapon. If they did have it, the Middle East would be gone. Israel would be gone. And it would hit Europe probably next. We’re doing a service to the world.”

Donald Trump

Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, he expressed resoluteness. “They think that I’ll get tired of this or I’ll get bored, or I’ll have some pressure, but there’s no pressure, there’s no pressure at all,” he said, adding, “We’re going to have a complete victory.” “We’ve already in theory had a complete victory from the military standpoint,” Trump asserted.
