The National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party, Henry Nana Boakye has officially declared his intention to contest for the position of National First Vice Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party ahead of its next internal elections. The announcement positions him among the early contenders seeking to play a leading role in rebuilding the party following its defeat in the 2024 general election.
In a statement issued on Sunday, July 19, Nana B said his decision was inspired by a deep sense of responsibility and commitment to the party’s future. He explained that he intends to contribute to efforts aimed at strengthening the NPP’s structures and preparing it for a stronger showing in the 2028 general election.
“I write with gratitude and a deep sense of duty to formally announce my intention to contest for the position of National First Vice Chairman of our great party.”

The National Organiser of the party stated that his decision is backed by more than two decades of active service within the party. He noted that his political journey has given him practical experience at almost every level of the NPP’s organisational structure.
According to Boakye, his involvement began at the polling station level during the 2000 general election when he served as a Polling Station Agent in the then Manhyia Constituency. He later became Polling Station Chairman in the Tarkwa Nsuaem and Oforikrom constituencies while taking on additional responsibilities within constituency campaign operations.
Furthermore, he recounted serving as a member of the Tarkwa Nsuaem Constituency Campaign Team before becoming Communications Officer for the Oforikrom Constituency. These roles, he explained, strengthened his understanding of grassroots mobilisation and constituency organisation.
Beyond constituency politics, Nana B highlighted his contribution to student leadership through the Tertiary Students Confederacy. He served as TESCON President at both the University of Mines and Technology and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, where he worked to expand the party’s presence among tertiary students.
The aspiring National First Vice Chairman also pointed to his service at the regional level as a member of the Ashanti Regional Communications Team. In addition, he participated in the party’s Ashanti Regional Campaign Team during the 2016 general election.
Nana B said every stage of his political journey has prepared him for greater responsibility within the party. He appealed to delegates and party faithful to consider his experience and commitment as they prepare to elect new national officers.
Unity And Strong Structures Seen As Path To Electoral Recovery
Henry Nana Boakye says the party’s return to power in the 2028 general election will depend on unity, discipline and stronger organisational structures. He argued that rebuilding confidence among party members and strengthening internal coordination will be central to the NPP’s next electoral campaign.
The National Organiser stated that his bid for the National First Vice Chairman position is driven by a conviction that the party possesses the capacity to recover from its 2024 electoral defeat. He explained that renewed determination and collective effort would provide a solid foundation for future success.

At the national level, Boakye highlighted the strategic responsibilities he has undertaken over the years. He noted that he previously served as Director of Events and Programmes for the National Youth Wing before being elected National Youth Organiser and later National Organiser.
Additionally, he pointed to his international experience as former Vice Chairman of the International Young Democrat Union. According to him, that role broadened his leadership perspective and exposed him to organisational practices adopted by political parties across different countries.
His national responsibilities also include membership of the NPP National Communications Team as well as participation in the party’s legal and campaign structures. He served on the 2020 Presidential Election Petition Legal Team and was a member of both the 2020 and 2024 National Campaign Teams.
Furthermore, Nana B currently serves on the party’s National Steering Committee, National Executive Committee and National Council. He also worked as Vice Chairman of the Planning Committee for the 2025 National Delegates Conference, where he contributed to preparations for one of the party’s major internal events.
The former National Youth Organiser said effective leadership requires collaboration across every level of the party. He stressed that rebuilding the NPP would depend on active engagement between national executives, regional officers, constituency leaders and grassroots members.
He also appealed to party members across the country to support his ambition through prayers, guidance and encouragement as preparations begin for the internal elections. Nana B added that the journey towards the next general election requires every member to work towards a common purpose and strengthen the party’scollective resolve.
