Mr. Ibrahim Mahama, the Chief Executive Officer of Engineers and Planners (E&P), has formally refuted ongoing claims alleging that he intends to acquire or has submitted an offer to take over the state-owned Volta Aluminium Company (VALCO).

The clarification follows recent public demonstrations organized by the Labour Union of VALCO, during which worker factions voiced opposition against perceived privatization plans and explicitly linked the prominent Ghanaian businessman to a potential equity acquisition.

Rejecting the assertions in an official disclaimer issued through his media office, the business mogul emphasized that he maintains no commercial interest in purchasing the strategic aluminum smelting facility.

“Mr Ibrahim Mahama has no such interest and has not made any such offer to acquire VALCO. Unfortunately the allegation, is the latest in several vile attempts to impute the integrity of Mr Ibrahim Mahama and subject him to needless public engagements. The track record of the integrity of the businesses that Mr Mahama has interest in prove that his businesses are one of the best run operations across the African continent.”

The official response seeks to address growing speculation within the extractive and industrial manufacturing sectors, where rumors regarding VALCO’s corporate restructure have generated widespread stakeholder anxiety.

Addresses issued on behalf of the E&P Chief Executive described the allegations as part of an ongoing series of calculated attempts to unfairly target his reputation and draw his commercial brands into unnecessary public disputes.

Reaffirming his operational history across West Africa, his management team stressed that all commercial ventures associated with his leadership operate under strict legal compliance and have established proven track records of corporate governance across diverse economic cycles.

Institutional Context and the Imperative for Immediate Clarification

The immediate necessity for this public clarification stems from the heightened economic and political sensitivity surrounding VALCO’s position within Ghana’s Integrated Aluminium Industry (IAI) framework.

Organized labor protests and industrial actions regarding state asset transfers often trigger rapid market uncertainty, impacting strategic investor confidence and worker stability across related mining and processing supply chains.

When rumors falsely connect high-profile private sector figures like Mr. Mahama to contentious state divestments, prompt legal and public disclaimers become vital to prevent reputational harm and maintain commercial focus.

Furthermore, the extractive industry relies heavily on regulatory predictability and public trust, particularly when private indigenous firms compete for large-scale natural resource concessions.

In an environment where state agencies such as the Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation (GIADEC) are actively restructuring heavy industrial assets, false claims regarding corporate takeovers can distort public debate and create unwarranted hostility between industrial workforces and local indigenous investors.

By setting the record straight, E&P’s leadership separates its core earthmoving, civil engineering, and mining operations from unrelated state asset restructuring debates.

Legal Directives and Sustained Corporate Operations

In response to the union’s allegations, the CEO’s special aide, Rafik Mahama, confirmed that legal counsel has been formally instructed to pursue necessary legal actions against entities originating and circulating the false claims.

The leadership maintained that all business entities under Mr. Mahama’s direction “have been legally commenced or acquired and operate within the ambit of applicable laws,” an operational compliance record that has sustained his commercial enterprise across seven sequential national election cycles.

The statement reiterated the CEO’s continued commitment to national economic development through legitimate enterprise building and strategic capital investments within Ghana and the broader continent.

By taking a firm legal stance while disavowing any bid for the state aluminum smelter, the mining services executive aims to protect his established corporate identity while allowing state institutions and organized labor to resolve VALCO’s strategic equity arrangements through official policy channels.

Extractive Sector Stability and Policy Governance

The clear demarcation between private mining service contractors and state-led industrial asset divestments remains essential for healthy governance in West Africa’s resource corridor.

Unverified allegations directed at private indigenous capital risk distracting from broader policy discussions regarding how state-owned processing plants can be sustainably modernized.

Clear communication from key industry figures serves to maintain public trust in local enterprise capability while encouraging objective evaluation of industrial policy decisions.

Ultimately, resolving misinformation surrounding national industrial assets ensures that public policy debate remains focused on transparent, regulatory-driven frameworks.

As Ghana continues to develop its downstream mineral processing capacity, transparent dialogue among state corporations, private industrial leaders, and labor unions will be paramount to safeguarding national strategic assets while fostering a predictable investment environment.
