The first official poster for Michael B. Jordan’s highly anticipated reimagining of The Thomas Crown Affair has dropped, building excitement for the romantic heist thriller set to hit theaters on March 5, 2027.

Directed by and starring Jordan himself, the project promises a fresh, modern take on the classic tale of cat-and-mouse intrigue, high-stakes theft, and sizzling romance.

The poster features Jordan looking every inch the sophisticated billionaire anti-hero in a crisp white tuxedo and black bow tie, with a gloved hand prominently displayed. The bold tagline “REVENGE IS A WORK OF ART” hints at deeper personal stakes and a narrative twist that diverges from previous versions.

Filmed for IMAX and distributed by Amazon MGM Studios, this marks Jordan’s second directorial effort following the success of Creed III.

Jordan first pitched the idea years ago and stepped into the multifaceted role of star, director, and producer through his Outlier Society banner. The script, penned by Drew Pearce (The Fall Guy) from earlier drafts, reimagines Thomas Crown not merely as a bored playboy stealing for thrills, but as a figure driven by more personal, culturally resonant motivations.

“The first two films were about rich white guys stealing for fun. That doesn’t land today,” Jordan has said. “Ours is more personal. The stakes are higher. Still got the fashion, romance.”

This third screen adaptation follows the 1968 original starring Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway, and the popular 1999 remake with Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo. Where those focused on bank heists and art theft as games of leisure, Jordan’s version infuses contemporary themes, including elements of reclamation and higher emotional stakes.

Production wrapped after filming primarily in London and other European locations, giving the film a polished, international flair.

The ensemble cast is stacked with talent. Adria Arjona steps into the role of the sharp insurance investigator or private detective who engages in the central romantic and intellectual duel with Crown. Taylor Russell was originally attached but exited due to creative differences. Supporting players include Oscar nominee Lily Gladstone, Black Panther alum Danai Gurira (reuniting with Jordan), Kenneth Branagh, Aubrey Plaza, Ruth Negga, and Pilou Asbæk.

Charles Roven of Atlas Entertainment produces alongside Jordan, Elizabeth Raposo, Patrick McCormick, and Marc Toberoff, with original 1968 writer Alan Trustman serving as executive producer.

A trailer is scheduled to release imminently tomorrow following this poster drop after footage previously wowed attendees at CinemaCon. Early descriptions suggest stylish heist sequences, including the theft of a Van Gogh, flirtatious banter between Jordan and Arjona, and a menacing presence from Branagh’s character.

Grammy-winning artist Jon Batiste is composing the score, promising a sophisticated sonic backdrop that echoes the film’s themes of art, desire, and revenge.

Jordan’s evolution as a filmmaker has been notable. After proving his box-office draw and directorial chops with Creed III, he tackled this passion project while also starring in Ryan Coogler’s Sinners, for which he won an Oscar. Directing The Thomas Crown Affair while acting in it presented unique challenges, including longer shoots and building chemistry with a new ensemble. “It’s the second hardest thing I’ve ever done,” Jordan noted, highlighting the technical and leadership demands.

The story centers on billionaire Thomas Crown, who orchestrates clever art heists. When pursued by a determined investigator, a charged romantic tension develops amid the pursuit. Expect the signature elements that made prior films memorable elegant settings, clever twists, and undeniable chemistry updated for today’s audiences with greater emphasis on character depth and visual spectacle suitable for IMAX.

Public Reaction

Industry observers see this as a strategic move for Amazon MGM Studios, leveraging Jordan’s star power post-Sinners and Creed successes. The film aims to deliver escapist thrills with substance, blending action, romance, and commentary in a package that demands the big screen. Costume design by Ruth E. Carter is already generating pre-release hype for its fashion-forward aesthetic.

As anticipation builds, the poster signals a confident, stylish entry into the heist genre. Fans of the originals will find familiar DNA, while new viewers can expect a reimagined story that feels urgent and relevant. With a stacked cast, proven creative team, and Jordan’s vision at the helm, The Thomas Crown Affair is positioned as a major 2027 release.

The drop comes at a perfect time, capitalizing on Jordan’s momentum. As editing wrapped and marketing ramps up, this first look teases a film that balances glamour, intellect, and heart.
