The popular twin duo DopeNation has officially signed a publishing deal with Sony Music Publishing West Africa.

The announcement, made on Friday, July 31, 2026, marks a significant milestone for the identical brothers as they expand their reach beyond the continent.

Sony Music Publishing West Africa shared the news through an official statement, expressing delight at welcoming the Ghanaian artists to its family. “We are delighted to welcome Ghanaian twin duo, @ghdopenation, to the SMP family!” the statement read.

“Known for their infectious blend of Hiplife, Hip Hop, and Afrobeats, DopeNation are versatile songwriters, artists, and producers who have developed a sound uniquely their own, GhanaPiano. With their energetic, genre-bending music and electrifying performances, the duo have captivated audiences across Africa and beyond, establishing themselves as an exciting force in Ghana’s music and entertainment scene. We’re proud to welcome DopeNation to the family”

DopeNation consists of Michael Boafo, known as B2, and Tony Boafo, known as Twist. The brothers, originally from Saltpond in Ghana’s Central Region, have built a reputation as both performers and hitmakers behind the scenes.

They first gained attention as producers, crafting tracks for major Ghanaian and African artists including Shatta Wale’s “Kpuu Kpaa,” Joey B’s “Wow” and “Sebgefia,” Ebony Reigns’ “Poison,” Eazzy’s “Forever,” and Pappy Kojo’s “Nana Ama.” Their production credits also extend to Nigerian stars such as Olamide and others.

As artists in their own right, the duo released early singles like “Bebia Ye Shi” in 2016 and “Uh Huh” in 2017. Their breakthrough came with the 2018 self-produced hit “Eish,” followed by “Naami,” which featured Olamide and DJ Enimoney. That collaboration helped them win the Sound City MVP Group of the Year award for Africa.

They later signed a short-term deal with Lynx Entertainment in 2019, releasing “Zanku” under the label before becoming independent again. In recent years, they have continued releasing music while exploring their signature GhanaPiano sound, a fusion that mixes traditional Ghanaian elements with contemporary Afrobeats, hiplife, and hip-hop rhythms.

The partnership with Sony Music Publishing is expected to provide DopeNation with greater international exposure, songwriting opportunities, and support for their catalog. Music publishing deals typically help artists collect royalties from streams, radio play, synchronizations in films and advertisements, and live performances more efficiently, while opening doors to collaborations with a global network of writers and producers.

For a duo already known for genre-bending work and energetic live shows, the deal positions them to reach wider audiences in Africa, Europe, the United States, and beyond.

Public Reaction

Industry observers see the signing as part of a broader trend of major international publishers investing in West African talent. Afrobeats and related styles have grown rapidly in global popularity, with Ghanaian artists contributing distinctive flavors through hiplife and emerging subgenres like GhanaPiano.

Sony Music Publishing’s West Africa division has been actively signing regional creators, aiming to nurture and promote local songwriting talent on the world stage.

Fans and fellow artists quickly celebrated the news on social media. One reaction highlighted the potential for “more cookings and visibility next,” reflecting the excitement that the partnership could fuel new music and bigger platforms for the twins.

DopeNation’s ability to both perform and produce has long set them apart in Ghana’s competitive scene, and this deal is viewed as validation of their consistent output and evolving sound.

The brothers have previously spoken about the realities of the music business. In interviews, they noted that while record labels and publishing companies can offer financial support, marketing muscle, and broader reach, such partnerships require careful understanding of contracts, deadlines, and creative expectations.

Having navigated independence after their earlier label experience, their move to Sony Music Publishing appears strategic, focused specifically on the publishing side rather than a full recording contract. This approach allows them to retain significant control over their artistic direction while benefiting from professional administration of their rights.

Looking ahead, the deal is likely to support future releases, writing sessions, and potential placements. DopeNation has already shown versatility by producing for other artists and mentoring emerging talent, including visually impaired singer Adelaide The Seer.

With Sony’s resources, they may expand those efforts and introduce more of their GhanaPiano style to international playlists and festivals.

The Ghanaian music community has long pushed for greater recognition of its creators on the global stage. Signings like this one contribute to that momentum, signaling that international companies are paying attention to the talent emerging from Accra and other creative hubs.

For DopeNation, the partnership represents both an achievement and a new chapter after years of grinding as producers and performers.

As the duo settles into the Sony Music Publishing family, expectations are high for fresh material that builds on their established hits while exploring new sonic territory. Their energetic performances and genre-blending approach have already won over audiences at home and across Africa.

Now, with the backing of one of the world’s largest music publishers, those sounds have a clearer path to even larger stages.

The announcement highlights the continued rise of West African music and the growing professional infrastructure supporting its songwriters and producers. For B2 and Twist of DopeNation, the road ahead looks brighter than ever as they bring their unique GhanaPiano vibe to the global music conversation.
