Ghanaian streetwear collective Free The Youth is set to host a launch celebration for its collaboration with Jordan Brand at Patta London this Thursday. The event takes place on August 13 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the store on 6 Silver Place in Soho, offering fans an early chance to mark the arrival of the Free The Youth x Air Jordan collection in the UK capital.

According to the announcement posted by the collective, the gathering features music by Selassie (to be confirmed) and drinks provided by Mirchi. Entry is first-come, first-served, reflecting the informal, community-driven spirit that has defined both Free The Youth and Patta over the years. The pink promotional flyer highlights the Jumpman logo alongside Free The Youth branding and an eagle motif, underscoring the cultural crossover at the heart of the partnership.

The event comes as Free The Youth and Jordan Brand roll out their first widely available sneaker collaboration, centered on the Air Jordan 16. The Metallic Silver colorway, featuring accents of Picante Red and Total Orange, is priced at $255. An exclusive online drop via freetheyouthxjordan.net occurred earlier in August, with a broader release scheduled for August 15 through SNKRS and select retailers.

An accompanying apparel collection rounds out the offering. Earlier in the partnership, the collective produced a highly limited friends-and-family Air Jordan 1 Mid run of just 175 pairs, distributed among key supporters and figures in Ghana and beyond.

Free The Youth emerged in Tema, Ghana, around 2013 from a group of friends including Jonathan Coffie, Kelly Foli, Winfred Mensah, and Richard Ormano. What began as a social media effort to showcase Ghanaian street style and challenge local norms evolved into a full fashion brand, creative agency, and NGO. The collective’s signature phrase, “this is pain on cotton,” captures its blend of bold graphics, social commentary, and youthful energy.

Over the years it has grown into one of West Africa’s most visible streetwear voices, worn by artists including Wizkid, Davido, Asake, Tems, Amaarae, Stormzy, and others.

Beyond the Clothing

Beyond clothing, Free The Youth has consistently emphasized youth empowerment. Its “Ghetto University” initiatives and workshop programs train young people in screen printing, photography, music, and design. A flagship space on Liberation Road in Accra long served as a studio, retail outlet, and community hub before closing earlier in 2026, with the collective signaling a new chapter ahead.

The brand’s dual identity as commercial label and social project has helped it stand out in a global streetwear landscape often focused solely on product drops.

The Jordan Brand partnership represents a significant milestone. It positions Free The Youth as one of the first West African streetwear collectives to collaborate officially with the Jumpman on retail product. Campaign imagery for the Air Jordan 16 collection has leaned into handmade, analog creativity-hand-drawn, painted, and sculpted backdrops paired with live performances by collective members rather than digital effects.

Visuals draw on Ghanaian architecture, national symbols such as the tawny eagle, and the colors of the Ghanaian flag, reinforcing themes of strength, freedom, and cultural pride. Previous joint activity included appearances in Jordan’s 40th anniversary programming and a Paris event during Fashion Week that offered an early look at the collection.

Hosting the London celebration at Patta is a natural fit. The Amsterdam-born streetwear brand, with stores in London, Milan, and Lagos, has long prioritized community alongside commerce. Patta’s foundation supports youth workshops and educational programs under the “each one, teach one” ethos.

Its London location regularly stages in-store events that mix music, product launches, and social gatherings, creating spaces where fashion, sport, and culture intersect. The choice of venue highlights shared values around creativity, opportunity, and supporting the next generation.

For attendees, the evening offers more than a chance to see product. It provides a moment of connection between Ghanaian creative energy and London’s vibrant streetwear scene.

Free The Youth has previously engaged with the city, including campaign work that linked Tema streets to Brixton. The August 13 gathering continues that thread, bringing the collective’s story of resourcefulness and self-determination into a physical retail environment known for its own community focus.

The broader Free The Youth x Jordan project arrives at a time when African creative collectives are gaining increased visibility on the global stage. Collaborations of this nature help shift narratives away from limited stereotypes and toward recognition of design talent, entrepreneurial drive, and cultural contribution.

By pairing a historically significant sneaker silhouette-the Air Jordan 16, associated with Michael Jordan’s time with the Washington Wizards-with contemporary Ghanaian aesthetics and messaging, the partnership creates a dialogue between basketball heritage and African youth culture.

Details of any exclusive product availability or further programming at the Patta event remain limited to the basic announcement. Organizers have stressed the first-come, first-served policy, so early arrival is advisable for those hoping to secure a spot. Music and hospitality elements are expected to keep the atmosphere lively within the two-hour window.

As Free The Youth continues expanding its reach while maintaining roots in Ghanaian community work, events like the Patta London launch serve as both celebration and statement.

They mark commercial progress without losing sight of the original impulse: to free young people to create, express themselves, and claim space on their own terms. The August 13 gathering offers London audiences a direct window into that ongoing story.
