We are on high alert- Police on crime in the Ashanti region

Patrolling has helped reduce crime rate in A/R- ASP Ahianyo

Public Relations Officer for the Ashanti Regional Police command, ASP Godwin Ahianyo

The Ashanti Regional Police command says the command is on high security alert to ensure perpetrators of various crimes do not carry out any heinous act in the region.

Speaking in relation to the series of events which has unfolded in the region over the past weeks,;the PRO for the Ashanti Regional Police Command, ASP Godwin Ahianyo indicated that the Police has beefed up its security to prevent further crimes.

“We are on high alert and we’ve had series of meetings with the senior officers,;the commander and all of them to be up and doing so that we don’t record such incidents again.”

Speaking on the murder of the activist,;Ibrahim Muhammed also known as Kaaka,;he revealed that there was no prove he reported death threats to the Police prior to his murder.

“Per our record,;no Police Officer received complaints from the deceased about threats on his life;prior to his demise before this information came out. We spoke to the District Commander,;the Crime Officer and the station officer and they have all told us that;the late Kaaka never came to lodge any complaint of threat on his life.”

However, the Police, he says, is investigating every bit of the allegations that are being made. Additionally, he averred that the Police Service will ensure that it unravels; the circumstances leading to the death of Kaaka and called on the general public to assist with information in this regard.

Bolt driver murder suspect admits action

On the issue of the murder of the Bolt driver,;ASP Ahianyo also confirmed the arrest of the suspect and disclosed that;the suspect after his arrest confirmed to committing the act.

The driver, he said,;initially denied knowledge of the murder but later admitted and led Police to the scene where the murder happened.

The murder suspect, according to the Police said he was influenced by TV spiritualist to commit the murder. This is the second murder issue in the last quarter being linked to television ritualist. He further indicated that no one has been arrested aside the suspect but further said;they will be pick up the persons who influenced him to aid investigations.

“He is supposed to lead police to apprehend those people who he said influenced him. I’m sure as time goes on, we will get him remanded. Subsequently, if we get people arrested, we will let the public know.”

We patrol KNUST everyday

On the KNUST violence between Continental and Katanga Halls which raised alarm on security on the school’s premises,;ASP Ahianyo stated that they already have officers who have been patrolling the school.

“We are already on the ground but I am sure;if authorities are aware of the happenings and they think they have to establish any unit whatsoever,;I think they will take that thing up. But I am just assuring the good people of the university that our men are already on;the ground patrolling every day and night with the local security.”

Moreover, Mr. Ahianyo said the cause for the violence and crimes in the Ashanti region will be identified after their investigators are done.

“They are writing their report and they will be able to incorporate in everything in to the report and then communicate that to us.”
