The Minister for Roads, Honourable Kwame Governs Agbodza, has directed Maripoma Enterprise Limited to intensify work on the 19.5 kilometre Tema Roundabout to Tetteh Quarshie Interchange project, with operations continuing during the day and at night. The directive is to accelerate construction and keep the project on schedule while reducing the disruption faced by motorists using the busy corridor.

During an inspection of the project, the Roads Minister commended the contractor for progress achieved since his previous visit and noted that work had advanced by about 10 percent. He also acknowledged the completion of the main bridge near the inspection point, which was delivered ahead of schedule and without an incident involving the public.

Public safety is a major consideration because the interchange serves motorists continuously throughout the day. Against this backdrop, the completion of the bridge was welcomed as an important achievement because construction took place within an active transport corridor.

“My fear actually has always been the risk to the public because it’s an intersection that is in use 24/7.”

Honourable Kwame Governs Agbodza

The Minister also observed a marked increase in activity across the construction site and urged the contractor to build on that momentum. According to him, the scale of the project requires a work pattern capable of taking advantage of available hours to accelerate critical activities.

Analysing the construction schedule, Honourable Agbodza encouraged Maripoma Enterprise Limited to make greater use of night operations. He proposed that disruptive activities should receive greater attention at night while selected lanes remain available for motorists during the day.

The approach, he noted, would fit into the Government’s 24-hour economy initiative while helping the contractor manage construction around a heavily used route. Therefore, the Minister urged the project team to organise its activities in a manner that allows substantial work to continue after daylight hours.

Assessing the overall completion target and the progress recorded on the project, he acknowledged that approximately 50 percent of the work had been completed and urged the contractor to accelerate the remaining activities.

The Roads Minister explained that some of the outstanding works require careful planning, particularly foundation and earthworks. He encouraged the contractor to take advantage of favourable weather conditions to advance those activities before conditions become more difficult.

More Works To Be Compeleted Along The Way

During the inspection of the bridge works around 18 Junction, Honourable Agbodza urged the contractor to accelerate backfilling at the location because the completed section could facilitate temporary access for motorists while construction continues on the remaining lane.

From his perspective, effective sequencing of the works could help create additional space for traffic and reduce the pressure on motorists. The suggestion also formed part of a wider call for the contractor to use its experience in earthworks to improve the pace of construction.

The Minister further linked the progress of the project to the expectations of the travelling public. He explained that motorists using the corridor endure significant disruption during construction and therefore expect the project to meet its scheduled completion period.

Nonetheless, the inspection also produced commendation for the contractor’s progress as activity on the site showed visible improvement. The Roads Minister encouraged the project team to sustain the momentum and focus on the activities that can deliver the greatest gains within the remaining construction period.

The inspection placed particular emphasis on practical measures that can shorten the construction period without compromising public safety. With traffic management, night operations and accelerated earthworks receiving attention, the contractor was urged to translate the available resources into faster progress.

Honourable Agbodza also encouraged the team to be focused on the agreed project target as construction enters another important phase. He indicated that the Government expects contractors working on major road projects to demonstrate efficiency and respond quickly to challenges affecting delivery.

Road Inspection Expands Across Greater Accra As Government Pushes Completion

The Roads and Highways Ministry has begun a nationwide inspection programme to assess progress on major road projects and engage contractors on delivery timelines. The exercise commenced in the Greater Accra Region on Wednesday, August 19, with several strategic projects forming part of the initial inspection schedule.

The tour covers the La Beach Road Completion Project, involving Phases One and Two, which is being executed by Oswal Investment Limited. It also includes the 27.7 kilometre Accra to Tema Motorway Extension Project as well as the 19.5 kilometre Tema Roundabout to Tetteh Quarshie Interchange project.

Further inspections are scheduled for the rehabilitation of the Tema to Aflao Road, which involves First Sky Limited and BHM Construction Limited. The Minister is also assessing the reconstruction of the Dodowa to Afienya to Dawhenya Road from kilometre 0.0 to 24.8 together with selected town roads.

Another major project on the itinerary is the 22 kilometre dualisation of the Adenta to Dodowa Road, which is also being undertaken by Oswal Investment Limited. These projects form part of a wider transport infrastructure programme intended to improve movement across key urban and regional corridors.

Addressing the broader purpose of the exercise, the Ministry is using the inspections to establish the actual progress of ongoing works. Consideration is also being given to challenges facing contractors and the measures required to improve implementation.

The inspection programme provides an opportunity for direct engagement between government officials and contractors at project locations. Furthermore, technical and operational issues can be assessed on site, allowing decisions concerning timelines and construction priorities to be informed by conditions on the ground.
