Arsenal have strengthened their defensive options with the signing of England international Ezri Konsa from Aston Villa on a long-term contract, adding a proven Premier League defender to their squad ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
The 28-year-old joins the reigning Premier League champions after seven seasons at Villa Park, where he established himself as one of the league’s most reliable defenders.
Arsenal confirmed that Konsa will wear the number 15 shirt, with the transfer subject to the completion of regulatory processes.
After signing his contract and formally completing the move, Konsa said: “I’m super excited. It’s a privilege to be here and can’t wait to get started.”
The urge to win consistently, according to the defender, is what drove him to join the 14-time English League champions. “I want to keep winning, I’m hungry to win and that’s what I’m here for. It’s a proud moment for me and my family to play for one of the best teams in the world.”

Since arriving at Villa from Brentford in 2019, Konsa has developed into an important figure in their defence, making more than 200 appearances for the club across all competitions.
The London-born defender also has considerable international experience. He represented England at youth level and was part of the side that won the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup before making his senior England debut in March 2024.
He was subsequently included in England’s squads for Euro 2024 and the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

At the 2026 tournament, Konsa made eight appearances and scored in England’s 6-4 third-place victory over France.
Konsa Brings Versatility and Experience
Konsa is a versatile player with his ability to operate at both centre-back and right-back adding to his value, while his composure in possession and defensive intelligence have made him particularly suited to possession-based football.
Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta welcomed the defender, describing him as a player whose athleticism, composure and tactical intelligence have made him one of the Premier League’s consistent performers.

Konsa’s versatility could prove particularly valuable to Mikel Arteta. Comfortable both centrally and at right-back, the defender gives Arsenal another option across the back especially with injuries to both Jurrien Timber and William Saliba.
His familiarity with several Arsenal players should also help ease his transition. Konsa played alongside Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice, Eberechi Eze and Noni Madueke during England’s 2026 World Cup campaign, giving him established relationships within the dressing room.
Steady Progression for Konsa
Konsa’s journey represents a steady progression through English football rather than a rapid rise to prominence. After coming through Charlton’s system, he moved to Brentford and then Villa, where he developed into an established Premier League defender.

His international breakthrough followed the same pattern. After earning recognition with England’s youth teams, including the 2017 U-20 World Cup-winning side, he eventually became a regular senior international. England’s official profile lists him with 28 senior caps and two goals.
Konsa now arrives at Arsenal determined to compete for more major honours after experiencing success with Villa.
He won the Europa League during his final campaign at the club and leaves after seven years of development at Villa Park. He reflected positively on his time at Aston Villa and was grateful for what the club did for him.
“I had a taste of it last season with the Europa League and I want to go for it all. I’m very proud of my time at Aston Villa. Very grateful for what they did for me in my career, joining them as a boy and leaving as a man. I’m excited to get going at Arsenal and can’t wait to get started.”

With Arsenal preparing to defend their Premier League title and compete on multiple fronts, Konsa’s arrival gives Arteta another experienced, versatile and internationally tested defender as the champions target further silverware.
