Ghanaian singer King Promise and Nigerian artist Mr Eazi have received a nomination for Best Collaboration at the 18th Headies Awards for their joint track “See What We’ve Done.” The announcement formed part of the full nominees list released on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, for the prestigious African music awards ceremony scheduled to take place in Canada later this year.

The recognition highlights the title track from the duo’s collaborative album of the same name, released in April 2026 through emPawa Africa. The nine-track project marked the first full joint album from the longtime friends and collaborators, who first connected more than a decade earlier.

“See What We’ve Done” serves as both the album’s closing statement and a reflective celebration of their individual and shared success, friendship, and growth in the industry.

Promotional materials circulating alongside the nomination news featured stylish images of the two artists. One shows them in a scenic outdoor setting with rolling green hills, while another formal graphic presents them side by side against an ornate background bearing the Headies branding and the category “Best Collaboration.”

The graphics emphasize the cross-border nature of the partnership between the Ghanaian and Nigerian stars.

King Promise, whose full name is Gregory Promise Bortey Newman, has built a strong reputation in Afropop and highlife with melodic hits and consistent output. Mr Eazi, born Oluwatosin Oluwole Ajibade, is known for pioneering the “Banku” sound and for his entrepreneurial work through the emPawa Africa platform that supports emerging African talent.

Their earlier collaborations, including the popular track “Dabebi,” laid the groundwork for the deeper partnership realized on the joint album.

The album See What We’ve Done explores themes of romance, reflection, celebration, and personal progress. It opens with “Where Have You Been?” and includes standout moments such as “That Way,” which interpolates the Backstreet Boys classic “I Want It That Way,” as well as “Mariana” and other tracks blending Afrobeats, highlife, R&B, and pop elements.

Production credits feature notable names including GuiltyBeatz, JAE5, KillBeatz, Gideonite, and others.

Lead singles from the project accumulated tens of millions of streams and charted in multiple territories across Africa, Europe, the UK, and the Middle East prior to the full album release.

In interviews surrounding the project, both artists described the album as a natural extension of their long-standing creative chemistry and personal bond. They worked on material across different periods before locking in intensively to complete the body of work.

The title itself functions as a direct statement of achievement and gratitude after years of building separate yet overlapping careers.

The Best Collaboration category at the 18th Headies places “See What We’ve Done” alongside several high-profile entries. Other nominees include Davido featuring Omah Lay’s “With You,” CKay featuring Mavo’s “Body (Danz),” Fola featuring Kizz Daniel’s “Lost,” Odumodublvck featuring Victony’s “Pity This Boy,” and additional tracks by Mavo, Poco Lee with collaborators, and Chief Priest. The presence of major Nigerian and regional acts underscores the competitive nature of the category.

The Headies, often regarded as one of Africa’s most significant music awards, evaluate material released within a defined eligibility window. For the 2026 edition, organizers considered works from August 2024 through April 2026.

Davido, Wizkid, and Burna Boy secured multiple nominations across major categories, reflecting the continued dominance of established Afrobeats figures, while emerging artists also featured prominently in categories such as Next Rated.

For King Promise, the nomination adds international recognition to a career already marked by success in Ghana and growing global reach. For Mr Eazi, it continues a pattern of accolades that accompany both his music and his broader contributions to the African music ecosystem.

Their joint project stands out as a deliberate cross-cultural statement at a time when collaborations between Ghanaian and Nigerian artists remain a vital part of the regional sound.

The official video for the title track, filmed in Iceland and incorporating personal elements including moments related to Mr Eazi’s wedding, further amplified the song’s visibility. Directed with a stylish visual approach, it reinforced the themes of triumph, brotherhood, and living the results of hard work.

As voting and preparations for the awards ceremony progress, the nomination provides an additional platform for the album.

Public Reaction

Fans of both artists have responded positively to the news, viewing it as validation of a project rooted in genuine friendship rather than purely commercial calculation. The Headies ceremony in Canada will offer a high-profile stage for nominees across the continent and diaspora.

“See What We’ve Done” arrives as more than a single collaboration. It represents the culmination of years of mutual support and creative alignment between two artists who helped shape contemporary West African popular music.
