The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has renewed its demand for urgent action over the reported disappearance of a Dambai resident, Fuseini Mohammed, nearly ten months after he allegedly went missing. The party says the prolonged absence of a clear breakthrough in the case raises serious questions about the effectiveness of the investigation and the protection of citizens.

Addressing the media in Dambai in the Oti Region on Tuesday, September 1, the NPP called on the government and security agencies to provide a detailed account of the steps taken since the reported incident. The party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, said the matter requires sustained national attention because of the uncertainty facing the missing man’s family.

According to the NPP, Mr Mohammed reportedly disappeared on the night of October 21, 2025, while travelling home on a motorbike with his pregnant wife after closing from their shop. The party emphasised that the reported incident occurred about 50 metres from the residence of the Oti Regional Minister.

The party argued that the location and circumstances surrounding the disappearance demand closer scrutiny from the security agencies. NPP therefore wants authorities to establish what happened to Mr Mohammed, determine who may have been responsible and explain the progress made in tracing his whereabouts.

The NPP also raised questions about the conditions prevailing in Dambai on the night of the reported incident. It pointed to the alleged non operation of the ferry and the presence of three security checkpoints along the route towards Nkwanta Junction as circumstances that should form part of the investigation.

Consequently, the party is asking whether available surveillance footage from the area and surrounding routes has been retrieved and subjected to forensic examination. It also wants security personnel who manned the relevant checkpoints to be questioned and their records reviewed as part of efforts to reconstruct the events of that night.

The party further urged the Regional Security Council and national law enforcement agencies to account for information allegedly provided by residents and potential witnesses. In its view, every available lead should be pursued to determine whether the missing resident can be located and those responsible identified.

The NPP also called on President John Dramani Mahama to ensure that the relevant state institutions treat the case with urgency. It argued that public confidence in Ghana’s security system depends partly on the ability of authorities to respond effectively when citizens disappear under suspicious circumstances.

For the party, the case extends beyond partisan politics and touches on the broader responsibility of the State to protect citizens. It therefore appealed to civil society organisations, traditional authorities, religious leaders, human rights groups and the media to support calls for a thorough and transparent investigation.

The NPP stressed that the immediate priority remains establishing the whereabouts of Mr Mohammed and providing his family with credible answers. The party urged authorities to identify and prosecute any person found culpable through due process of law.

NPP Questions Security Gaps In Reported Dambai Abduction Case

The New Patriotic Party also questioned possible security gaps surrounding the reported abduction of Fuseini Mohammed in Dambai, arguing that the circumstances of the incident require closer examination by state security agencies. The party says the reported proximity of the incident to key security points makes the absence of a publicly communicated breakthrough particularly troubling.

The NPP added that several details surrounding the October 2025 disappearance should be examined as part of a comprehensive investigation. The party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, said authorities must account for how the alleged perpetrators could have moved through the area without being detected.

The party cited information suggesting that the incident occurred along a principal route in Dambai, close to the residence of the Oti Regional Minister. It also highlighted the reported closure of the ferry at the time, which it said would have limited movement between parts of the area.

Further questions arise from the party’s account of the route towards Nkwanta Junction. The NPP said the approximately eight kilometre stretch reportedly had three security checkpoints operating at night, prompting it to question whether officers stationed there observed any unusual movement.

The party wants investigators to establish whether vehicles connected to the incident were captured by surveillance systems. It also asked whether CCTV footage from the relevant locations has been preserved and examined, particularly because it said there was no reported power outage in the area when the incident occurred.

Beyond surveillance footage, the NPP is seeking information on the records kept at the security checkpoints. It wants investigators to establish which officers were on duty, whether their accounts have been taken and whether checkpoint records provide information capable of helping investigators trace the movements of the alleged abductors.

The party also questioned the role played by the Oti Regional Security Council in coordinating the response. In its view, the Council should be able to demonstrate that the available security and investigative mechanisms have been brought together to pursue the case.

Meanwhile, the NPP broadened the matter into a question of equal protection under the law. It argued that the security of citizens should not depend on political influence, public office, social standing or other considerations.

The party stressed that an ordinary trader, farmer, teacher, student or driver deserves the same protection from the State as a senior public official. It consequently urged Ghanaians to view the case as a national security and accountability issue, rather than simply a matter between political parties.

The NPP also challenged the government to demonstrate that security institutions can respond effectively when an ordinary citizen becomes the victim of a serious crime. It said public confidence could suffer if families remain without meaningful information after lengthy investigations.

Traditional authorities, religious leaders, civil society organisations and human rights groups were therefore urged to support calls for greater transparency. The party highlighted their involvement could help keep the matter within the national conversation while encouraging authorities to pursue the investigation without political interference.
