Bayern Munich winger Luis Díaz is set for an extended spell on the sidelines after suffering a hamstring injury during the club’s UEFA Champions League encounter against Arsenal on Wednesday.
The Colombian international sustained the injury late in the contest at the Allianz Arena, where Bayern were held to a 2-2 draw by the English Premier League champions.
Díaz began the match on the bench before replacing a Ismail Saibari in the 68th minute. However, his involvement was cut short after he experienced discomfort and was forced off before the final whistle.

The German champions confirmed the severity of the injury in an official statement, revealing that medical examinations had identified a muscle fibre tear in the 29-year-old’s left hamstring.
“Luis Díaz picked up a minor muscle fibre tear in his left hamstring during FC Bayern’s Champions League game against Arsenal on Wednesday night. The injury was confirmed by examinations carried out by the FC Bayern medical unit. As a result, the 29-year-old attacking midfielder will be sidelined for the foreseeable future.”

The announcement leaves Bayern without one of their most influential attacking players, although the club has not provided a specific return date for the winger.
Díaz’s Impressive Start Interrupted
Díaz has made a strong impression since joining the Bavarians from Liverpool in the summer of 2025, establishing himself as an important component of the club’s attacking setup.
He has registered six goal contributions in 10 appearances across all competitions this season, scoring five goals and providing one assist.
His scored a hat-trick in Bayern’s emphatic 6-1 victory over RB Leipzig before the Arsenal clash, underlining his ability to influence matches through his pace, direct running and finishing.

The injury therefore represents a setback for both the player and Bayern as they seek to maintain their momentum across domestic and European competitions.
Since arriving in Munich, Díaz has amassed 62 appearances and scored 31 goals across all competitions, making him a significant attacking outlet for the Bundesliga side.
His absence could force Bayern manager Vincent Kompany to reconsider his options on the flanks while the Colombian undergoes rehabilitation.
Previous Injuries and Recovery Concerns
Although Díaz has generally remained available throughout his career, his injury history includes a significant knee problem that kept him out for several months during the 2022-23 season during his time in Liverpool.
During that time, the forward missed approximately 189 days after suffering a knee injury in October 2022, returning in April 2023. The setback ruled him out of a substantial portion of Liverpool’s campaign.

He also sustained recurring muscle problems during the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons, although those absences were considerably shorter than his lengthy knee layoff.
The latest hamstring injury adds another muscular setback to his record, but its eventual impact will depend on how the injury responds to treatment and rehabilitation.
Bayern will be keen to manage his recovery carefully rather than risk an early return that could aggravate the problem. The club’s decision not to specify a comeback date suggests that his progress will need to be assessed before a timetable can be established.
The immediate priority for Díaz, will be regaining full fitness, while Bayern must find a way to maintain their attacking threat during his absence.
