Sachet Water To Be Sold at ¢0.60 Effective Monday October 31.

The National Association of Sachet and Packaged Water Producers (NASPAWAP) has announced that, effective Monday, October 31, sachet water will be sold at ¢0.60 each amid Ghana’s cost of living crisis.

The Association indicated that the new prices are due to the continuous increases in the cost of production inputs as a result of the depreciation of the cedi against the major trading currencies.

The 500ml bottled water will also be retailed at ¢2.50 while the medium-sized bottled water will go for ¢3.50 and the 1.5 litres bottled water will sell at ¢5.

A bag of sachet water, which many Ghanaians depend on because of the limited supply of potable water, will be sold for GH¢10.

“In the open market, consumers may expect to purchase a bag of sachet water between GH12.00 and GH15.00 depending on the shop location.”

NASPAWAP

This was in a statement issued on Thursday, October 27, by the National Association of Sachet and Packaged Water Producers.

According to the Association, the new prices will allow the water producers to maintain the quality production of packaged water for Ghanaians.

The National Executive Committee of the National Association of Sachet and Packaged Water Producers (NASPAWAP) therefore recommends the following price reviews of bottled and sachet water.

“These reviews serve as a guide to all Regional associations to ensure uniformity across the country.”

NASPAWAP

They explained that there might be slight variations across regions and towns due to haulage to remote and distant areas and other overheads.

“As a result, most packaged water producers are currently unable to purchase materials to the expected levels while others are not operating as they cannot afford the losses of 45% on their working capital.”

Recent Increase In Sachet And Bottled Water

In September 2022, the prices of both sachet and bottled water were increase by NASPAWAP.

“The price of sachet water is expected to go up to 50 pesewas from September 19 after recommendations by the National Association of Sachet and Packaged Water Producers.”

NASPAWAP

A bag of sachet water was also sold at GH¢7 from the retail trucks.

The association in a statement also recommended that bottled water prices be increased.

“It is recommended that ice bottled water 500ml be retailed at GH¢2, and iced bottled water, 750ml or medium size, be retailed at GH¢3.”

NASPAWAP

These increases have been necessitated by the rising cost of inputs such as fuel and packaging materials, which are mainly imported.

The association further noted that increases in electricity and water tariffs also contribute to the price increment.
