As part of its commitment to strengthening national infrastructure and deepening industry partnerships, GoBitumen, a wholly owned subsidiary of GOIL PLC, hosted a high-impact stakeholder engagement session at its Tema-based bitumen facility.

In his address to the visiting delegation, Managing Director of GoBitumen, Mr. Joseph Adongo, emphasized the company’s dedication to supporting the country’s infrastructure goals through premium, quality-controlled products.

“We’re proudly Ghanaian-owned, and with our standardized products, we can help build better and longer-lasting roads for our nation.

“Our facility is equipped with rigorous in-house testing capabilities to ensure each batch meets both national and international standards.”

Mr. Joseph Adongo, Managing Director of GoBitumen

The event brought together a cross-section of Ghana’s road sector leadership, including representatives from the Ghana Highways Authority, Department of Urban Roads, and the Ministry of Roads and Highways.

The session offered stakeholders a first-hand look at GoBitumen’s operations, while opening up dialogue on future collaboration for Ghana’s road infrastructure development.

GoBitumen produces a range of products including base bitumen (AC 10 and AC 20), Polymer Modified Bitumen (PMB), and bitumen emulsions, all of which are tailored for Ghana’s climatic and road conditions.

The facility boasts a storage capacity of 7,500 metric tonnes, positioning it as a significant local supplier.

Mr. Adongo also highlighted GOIL’s proprietary use of Styrene-Butadiene-Styrene (SBS) Polymer in its PMB formulations—a material known for its exceptional elasticity and strength.

“PMB significantly enhances road durability, leading to reduced maintenance costs.

“We believe that with the right products and partnerships, we can drive transformative results in the sector.”

This stakeholder engagement reflects GoBitumen’s broader commitment to local industrialization and public-private partnerships.

As Ghana intensifies its road development agenda, the role of locally sourced and quality-certified materials has become critical in achieving value for money and sustainability.

The session also included contributions from several GOIL heads of department and technical staff from the bitumen facility, further reinforcing the company’s internal commitment to innovation, safety, and excellence.

“We are excited by the enthusiasm shown today by our stakeholders.

“Our shared vision is to ensure Ghana’s roads are built to last, and this requires collaboration, innovation, and mutual trust.”

Mr. Joseph Adongo, Managing Director of GoBitumen

The session included a guided tour of the Tema facility, giving stakeholders a behind-the-scenes look at GoBitumen’s production, safety, and testing processes.

Surv. Mallam Issah Ishak lauded the facility’s operational excellence and echoed the need for technical collaboration, especially in contractor training and capacity building.

“This facility is a national asset. We must ensure contractors are adequately trained to utilize these high-grade products effectively.

“A collaboration on quality control and training will not only strengthen the industry but also eliminate the use of substandard materials.”

He also advocated for regulatory alignment to ensure that only certified and tested products are deployed in road projects nationwide, emphasizing that such partnerships will be key to quality assurance in public infrastructure.

The engagement concluded with a shared commitment to strengthen cooperation between GoBitumen and Ghana’s road agencies.

Discussions are already underway to formalize capacity-building initiatives, joint testing protocols, and knowledge exchange programmes that can help elevate the entire sector.
