Mr Drew Reveals BTS Details on Spontaneous Creation of ‘Mood’ Megahit

Ghanaian musician, Mr Drew has revealed that his song hit song ‘Mood’ wasn’t part of his plans.

He brought to light the behind-the-scenes creation of how the successful song took shape and was released. “Mood wasn’t part of my plans [initially]. I was working on my Alpha album,” he narrated.

“I had recorded most of my songs already, and he [Beatz Vampire] played that beat, and I think that I was going to do a feature with Victor AD for my album and he played that beat. Initially, it was going to be me and Victor AD on a song like that, I was trying to find a melody for it.

“Even Kelvynboy actually chipped something in, big shouts to Kelvynboy. I’ve never mentioned this anywhere because I keep forgetting. He chipped something in and I think I tried recording it and I put it down for later. So when I was finalizing the album, I made Vampire play it again and he said, ‘Chale, won’t you let us finish this song?’ So we finished it.”

According to him, when the song ‘Mood’ was done, they played it to Baba Sadiq.

“We played it to people [like] Baba Sadiq. Later, I was listening to it over, and over, and over, and I said, ‘Let’s just do [release] it’. I wanted it to come out properly and I think people actually felt [enjoyed] it, too. As you said, the video was [chef kiss], Aaliyah, the model, video vixen, or dancer – did her thing. She complemented me and working with her was easy.”

Mr Drew

“Mood had to come out right, and I’m glad that we did that,” the award-winning entertainer emphasized contentedly.

He jokingly remarked that his only issue is that, “I had really slimmed down making my head look quite big.”

Mr Drew stated that he sees his fellows in the entertainment industry as “just work friends” and “not proper friends”.

According to him, it was “sometimes good” to keep things like this without becoming “too personal”. “This helps avoid [unnecessary] issues,” he explained.

“We’re work friends. When there’s an issue or we want to find out information from each other, it’s quite easy but apart from that… That doesn’t happen often… Even the work-friends are not plenty.”

Mr Drew

Speaking on why this was so, he maintained that some people feel threatened by the presence and talent of others, fearing “you’re coming from their bread”.

“Once somebody comes before you or gets a hit song before you, and now you all are there, at par, so to speak, they still want to show you, ‘Hey, I was here before you.’ So sometimes they’ll keep their space, giving you some gap.

“And that’s fine so you also don’t become too familiar… It has its downside, however. So I can’t say we have friends [in the industry]. I’ll say we have colleagues or work friends.”

Mr Drew

However, the singer highlighted the need for every citizen to help maintain peace and stability as Ghana goes to the polls on Saturday, December 7, 2024.

According to him, during voting, citizens help someone achieve their [political] dreams. “In doing that, don’t go and hurt yourself. Think about your [wellbeing, first],” the ‘Mood’ hitmaker urged voters.

“If you put the person into power wanting them to come and help you, [note] they cannot help you if you’re [brutally] hurt. Also, the last thing you want to do these days is end up at the hospital – you’ll suffer.

“There are no beds in the hospitals for patients. Please, guard your health, go vote, and go home. Don’t go and hurt yourself.”

Mr Drew

The dancer and singer-songwriter emphasized that citizens should vote peacefully if they’re healthy and fit.
